> An hour and a half to shoot 150 shots is good shooting? How many would be “bad” shooting? 8 hours and 1000 shots? Please

Looking at the picture I ask you, You can do better, faster with less shots and not harm the bird? The bird was not just hanging there still + any wind movement added. I’m pretty good with my .22 rifle but I would be going slow and careful as a bad result would be so easy to have happen. Eagles are not common and careful is way more important IMO. If it was me or mine in the tree, hot shot super shot would not be who I wanted shooting that close to me.

I have been in the house where a crazy kicked in the front door so we have weapons in each room and beside my leg in the chair I usually sit in.

I am not surprised at folks who have had a house fire and now have more and handier fire extinguishers than I do , better fire alarms, practice getting out, have several plans depending on where and when a fire might happen.

I don’t have children at home anymore so I have less lives to worry about. But I sure do not rag on folks that have had fires before. If you rag on me about weapons close while at home in a semi-rural area, that just shows bad on you, not the person who is prepared.

I do not worry about it nor am I paranoid, it is just like the plans I had and practiced for when an engine quit on takeoff. Never happened when I was unprepared because I was prepared every single time in over 10,000 hours of flying as the pilot. But it did happen several times. I and the others with me at the time are still alive because I was prepared every single time. I had the plans in my pocket, practiced and ready to go. I did not have to stop and think about what to do and I die because I needed to be doing it already.

Is wearing a seat belt paranoid? I hate them, think they are unnecessary for me but I don’t rag on those who think otherwise. I understand the risk when I don’t use them. It is not that I never use them but I don’t like them. I don’t claim to be safer or smarter or better. But when it comes to guns, shooting and being prepared, you are quick to rag on others. Why is that?

>
> If you are NOT advocating that, then just say so.

It is up to the individual to make that decision for him/herself. Each has their own skills and abilities, risk tolerance, comfort and safety level when carrying, good or bad firearms habits, eyesight in both good and dim lighting, personal makeup (nervous twitchy type? or calm under duress?) and not to mention where they live, how close are any neighbors, how likely is there to be danger, and other factors. There should not be any single, pat answer to “Should you always carry when at home?”

Besides all that, why does it matter what anyone else thinks the recommendation should be?

There are people who do. People who have a pistol in their pocket or on their hip every waking hour of the day, including while at home making dinner or mowing the lawn. And there are also people who have guns within handy reach in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. Not everyone does this, of course, even among gun owners and carriers, but some do. Why is this hard to fathom, or ripe for ridicule?

Are there other things that I’m not advocating that I should declare? I’m speaking plainly, as usual. Any insinuation you are interpreting is of your own design. I would not say “yes you should” without knowing much more about the fact pattern in question. In all cases, I would say people need to make their own choices.

This is an example of [DGU](https://www.periscope.tv/w/1yNGaRYBrbNJj)? Not trying to be snarky but the guy is guilty of being an asshole, not trying to de-escalate, and if reports are correct he does a “laughing at liberals” blog. Educate me why this is a good example of DGU?

His lawyer says he was defending himself from the demonstrators. No one was hurt. Positive all the way around.

Factoring in pauses to reload the magazine or feed tube, waiting for any wind to die down so the target isn’t moving. We don’t even know if the rifle wasn’t a bolt action or single shot which would slow the process down even more having to reset for every shot.

But hey, snark is cheap.

True dat!

Carnivorous Plant, I agree that is it “positive” only in that no shots were fired. Or to look at it another way, the perp got arrested and held on a $250k bond. Watch the video. It could have easily turned into the gunfight at the ok coral had there been a “good guy” with a gun scenario. Or he could have easily been sucker punched during the event. At a minimum, he is guilty of being an asshole that wanted to wave his gun around. Dude could have
a) not shown up armed and looking for an altercation
b) could have walked away

Let’s see what his day in court looks like but do you really think this is a good example of DGU?

Again, I’m not here to threadshit on the Positive Gun News of the Day, and I find it interesting to read this thread occasionally, but IMHO this is a poster child example of why the bar for who gets to carry needs to be raised. YMMV.

This thread is not exclusively about DGUs, just positive news relating to guns.

> [@Bone](#):
>
> Negative gun news gets quite a bit of attention in media and on this board. There’s a whole thread in the Pit that is over 6,200 posts and counting. This is a thread to bring up another aspect of gun ownership - positive news. I post it in this forum instead of in the Pit since it really is not any kind of statistical analysis, just mindless data points to share. Hopefully people can add their own positive news items relating to firearms.

The first example in the OP wasn’t even a DGU.

> The shooter, who was a customer at the convenience store and carried a holstered handgun on his side, fatally wounded Breland after a “highly agitated” Breland attacked him, police have said. Neither police nor the district attorney’s office has publicly identified the armed citizen in the shooting at the Shell gasoline station and convenience store at 3959 Louisiana 22. Breland died at Lakeview Regional Medical Center shortly after the 10 a.m. incident on April 4.
>
> Police said Breland berated and used racial slurs toward the store clerk, who is of Middle Eastern descent, before the customer intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation. Breland left, but re-entered the store several times, becoming more aggressive each time, authorities have said.
>
> The armed citizen, who was inside the store trying to make a purchase, followed Breland outside to get his license plate for police, but Breland got out of the vehicle and attacked him, police said. The customer drew his weapon, ordered Breland back and retreated into the store, but Breland followed and continued the attack, grabbing for the gun, according to authorities.
>
> After being backed into a corner of the store by an attacking Breland, the man fired one round, striking Breland, and fired twice more when Breland kept coming at him, police said. The district attorney’s office released surveillance video from the store that shows the incident unfolding.

DGU with one death. The entire incident is on video here. No idea why a person would continue to advance on the person who was armed. This was allowed to escalate further than I would expect.

IMHO the video shows aggressive/assholish gun use, and positive only in that thankfully no shots were fired and the perp was arrested on a $250k bond and will have his day in court on two felony counts. Any armed confrontation that ends with no injuries is a positive gun use by the police, especially given recent events. Props to the cops for their restraint. Let that be a good example for other law enforcement agencies around the country.
