How many rounds did you put into the can?

Of course they are in good faith. I don’t play in “gotchas”

The same people who rabidly declare “shall not be infringed!!!” are the same people who are now saying “Oh yeah, I guess it’s cool that it’s being infringed”

Doesn’t make any sense to me.

On another even more serious question, the rule of “Don’t draw your weapon unless you are so afraid for your life that you will kill the thing that is threatening you” is no longer in force?

>
> Contrast that to so-called “gun-free zones” like schools, some shopping malls, some businesses. There, someone hangs signs up disallowing guns, but does nothing to actually protect the safety of all of the people. Hanging a sign disallowing lawful carry makes it more likely that a lunatic will not encounter any resistance, but does nothing at all to increase safety.

Many so-called gun free zones have armed security, such as the resource officers at schools.

I would like to see your statistics on posted gun free zones being targeted by armed attackers more often than locations without such a posted policy. I don’t believe it.

Oh, I see now. Don’t you arm yourself and go around investigating stuff? Whenever I see or smell something strange, I arm myself up and go investigate it. It’s pretty prudent to do so.

You’ve obviously never found a groundhog that was torn up pretty badly (likely by one of your own dogs), dragging a necrotic hind end around, and not happy under your porch.

In the time I’ve owned my handgun, I’ve shot one deer (hit by a car, laying there thrashing around with a paralyzed hindquarters), lots of targets, and a torn up groundhog.

In the time I’ve owned my 16 gauge shotgun, I’ve shot one rabid fox, one rabid raccoon, a few dozen clay pigeons, and a bat that was flopping around on the ground outside.

I’ve owned my two guns for ~25 years.

ETA: I have a circular saw that I’ve used less frequently over the same time span.

I don’t own a dog. And if I see a rabid animal, I run or stay in the house. Same with a bat flopping around on the ground outside. Clay pigeons haven’t bothered me yet. I’ve never seen a deer still alive after being hit by a car. And if I did, I probably wouldn’t notice it as I drove by. I use my circular saw a lot, though.

How about in your closet? You know, like in the case we’re discussing. And even so, which of them made an odor bad enough to be scary _before_ dying and ending any possible threat they posed?

Yes, certainly a gun is a necessary tool for some rural dwellers; nobody here has said otherwise. That fact is a diversion from the topic, however.

Someone is dead because they broke into someone else’s home. You don’t break into someone’s house, you don’t risk getting shot by the homeowner. It’s really quite simple.

Remember, kids: the penalty for _any_ crime is death if you can make up the right story afterwards. Burglary? Death. Mugging? Death. Selling illegal cigarettes? Death. Speeding? Death. Smoking dope? Death. Walking with Skittles? Death.

Just say “Hey, that person shouldn’t have done ”. That’ll get you out of jail free in most instances. I mean, it’s not like they can contradict your account of events.

When was burglary made a capital crime, and when did homeowners get charged with being police, judge, jury, and executioner? I must have missed that part in Civics class, although it’s been in a lot of bad movies and TV shows.

“He was coming right at me!” works too. Even if it’s an exploded soup can.

How many years does a soup can need to stay in a closet for it to explode? Maybe the doomsday supplies need to be replaced once in a while.

It had already sprayed botulin toxin all over the place. Shooting it would have just spread it further.

Heh. It was a dented can purchased for pennies at BigLots.
