I like Claire and Anne. Simple, easy, classic but not common. No nicknames for Claire, though. Anne could be Annie. I guess if you were cutesy it could be Claire-bear or something like that. Congratulations on your babies! StG ---

I like Biblical names, but that’s just me. Some names of strong female characters would be Judith(gotta love a gal who can cut off a man’s head! :D) Susanna(you also have to like a woman who stood up to sexual harrassment!) Ruth Esther Miriam Deborah I am especially fond of Esther, as it is the name of my grandmother. If I’d had children it would have been my first choice as a name. ---

My mom named us completely different names (length, sound, origin), but gave us the same initials. Kinda cool for twins, if you ask me. My sisters’ names have been mentioned. I list them with other names I like: Eugenia (Genie or Zhenia) Gabrielle (Gabi) Annalise (or other variations in spelling) Jaqueline (Jackie–though my sister uses her first two initials T.J. as a nick) Hannah Rachel Gretchen Mathilda (Mattie) Gentry (as a first name) ---

Congrats on the twins, China Guy! Here are my suggestions. I divided the names by their final sounds because I think that’s an important consideration when deciding which names flow best. For example, my last name starts with O, so names that first names that end in a consonant sound best with it, IMHO. Also, I think too many L sounds can muddy up a name, so if you have any in your last name, it might be wise to avoid L sounds in the first name. Ends with A Daniela Emelia Cassandra Juliana Bianca Fiona Mara Nora Aurora Liliana Ends with L Ariel Noelle Rachel Ends with a non-L consonant Elise Caroline Celeste Bridget Meredith Violet All are classic names with standard spelling (except perhaps for Emelia/Amelia and Juliana/Julianna - I’m not really sure which are the more popular ones), and if you try really hard, I’m sure you could come up with nicknames for them all 🙂 ---

How about _xaiohai yi_ and _xiaohai er_? (Supply your own tone markings). Makes things a lot simpler. ---

Fiona and Ariel are both lovely names, but I’d stay away from any names used in cartoon movies. Yes, I know the names predate the cartoon characters, but your child’s cohorts won’t know that, and the character of “Fiona,” in particular, is known for her, ahem, non-traditional beauty (for those who have seen Shrek). I like: Helen Leslie Cheryl Dana My favorites: Claudia and Virginia (Unfortunately, both these names are likely to result in torment for your poor girls, but they were the names of two sisters who used to take turns babysitting my brother and I, and I always loved the names.) Also, unfortunately, none of the above names are associated with acceptable nicknames. Good luck with your family. 🙂 ---
