Besides the rainbow slinkies and assorted squishies from trade shows that my co-workers love to play with? No optical illusions here, but I do have a [trebuchet](http://www.trebuchet.com/kit/tabletop/) on my desk. It’ll fling a piece of hard candy about 35 feet. While not a toy or widget, my wood coffee mug gathers a little attention as well. ---

Also try standing maybe 10 feet away, closing one eye, then walking up to it. ---

I just made mine, after much trial and error, and it freaks me out. Too cool. **Athena** , I’ve found that it only seems to work when light shines on it (so that you can’t see any telltale creases). ---

Yeah, I have to either cross my eyes slightly or close one. Kind of like those “Magic Eye” illusions. ---

You _must_ close one eye, at least with me. Otherwise it doesn’t work at all. ---

For me, it works better with one eye closed. But I can stare at it for a while until the figure “pops” out; then it works just as great with both eyes opened. It’s a bit eerie to say the least. This will stay on my desk for a while! ---
