This is a real album (and I can prove it, I have one). It’s the soundtrack from the movie. > **[This Is Spinal Tap (soundtrack)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/This_Is_Spinal_Tap_(album)#/media/File:Solid_black.svg)** > > Pages for logged out editors learn more > > > This Is Spinal Tap (or simply Spinal Tap) is the soundtrack to the film This Is Spinal Tap, released in 1984. It was re-released in 2000 with lyrics and two versions of "Christmas with the Devil" as bonus tracks. The cover art is identical to that of the fictional album Smell the Glove featured in the film. > All tracks are written by Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, and Rob Reiner. ---

> [@Elmer\_J.Fudd](#): > > That album was so cryptically anonymous, several of my friends thought it was a secret Beatles reunion album. A lot of people did. The band wasn’t the Beatles, of course, but once the rumour started and the albums started selling based on that rumour, they weren’t about to squelch it. (Source: a friend who knows one of the band members, and has related the story to me.) Interestingly, their second album (“Hope”) did mention the band name on the front, but did not list the names of the band members anywhere. Their third album (“Sir Army Suit”) did likewise, but the band members were pictured among the people in the lineup, but without identification. It wasn’t until their fourth album (“Endangered Species”) that the band members’ names were put on the album cover. ---
