He didn’t say but presumably the oven. I guess being able to preheat the oven or tweak something that cooks for a long time could be useful, but I can’t imagine being able to turn on the burners being anything but dangerous. Unless you want to torch your internet capable potholders because they’re spying on you for the Russians. ---

I have a friend that has some sort of gizmo that allows him to monitor the temp of a roast while it’s in the oven. In fact my oven will do that and turn it self off when the inner temp of the meat gets to a certain point. I’ve never fiddled with it though. ---

The big selling point of smart ovens is that the homeowner can turn off the oven if they left it on accidentally. No more getting halfway to the airport and thinking……damn, I think I left the oven on, then you have to decide whether to miss your flight in order to drive home and check, or spend the next few weeks wondering if you house was going to burn down. It may seem like an oddball situation but it’s not….”Whoops, I think I left the oven on” is at the heart of many stories my friends tell about their aging parents. ---

Oddly enough, I saw a hat of this design on one of my neighbors this past Saturday night. So either they’ve got a logistics network faster than Amazon (flux capacitor-equipped Deloreans, perhaps?) or he just ripped a preexisting design off and is passing it off as his own. I know where the smart money is on that question. ---

I saw a comment by the stonekettle guy, to the effect that Individual-ONE has the social awareness of a hound sitting on the sidewalk studiously licking its asshole, and it occurred to me what an apt depiction it was. The MAGAtry are like the hound’s humans, who look on mildly bemused (not giving any thought to the fact that that shit-stained tongue will later be licking their faces), and they tolerate their pet’s disgusting behaviors because when they let it out in the morning, it goes and shits on the neighbor’s lawn, not their own (such as they are aware) and that neighbor deserves to have turds on their lawn (even though the neighbor’s yard is on the uphill side, but, you know, shit never rolls downhill). Or maybe there is a better cat analogy (after all, cats do also lick their own assholes), but the rulers of the IoC might object. ---
