# Post Count

I’m probably being dense here (in which case I crave your indulgence) but in this thread [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=63737](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=63737) my 3rd post shows up as my 41st. Fair enough, I’m a newbie.

But so does my fifth.

Now, I hope I don’t give the impression that my post count matters. Heaven forfend 🙂 - But I’m given the impression it matters to some (Yay, it’s my 100th post, etc).

If I’m ever to make it to 100, do I have to post in different threads?

Will this show up as my 42nd?

All posts that you have ever made show your current post count. For example, the very first post I ever made, which you might expect to have a post count of 1, actually shows up as being 102 or 103 or whatever I’m at now.

I think signatures work the same way, i.e., whatever your current one is, is the one that shows up in all posts, even old posts where you had a different signature.

I hope this makes sense.
