Hmm… so saying “I can get away with sexual assault” is about morally equivalent with saying “you’re dumb?” Well, I can’t blame you for having thin skin. Stupid people usually do.

That’s not hate speech; that’s the announcement that yes, they really are planning to round people up into camps and have the power to do it. It’s an open threat of ethnic cleansing.

You know our **Clothy** can’t count that high, even if he takes his shoes off. In fact, I imagine he wears his [gi](https://www.google.com/search?q=gi&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiW_ob7v7HQAhVFziYKHUJICD4Q_AUICigD&biw=1600&bih=794#imgrc=SKFwtEysFkFj-M%3A) all the time so he never has to worry about those pesky zippers on his pants, or how to Velcro his shoes to keep them from falling off.

It’s the exact opposite, actually.

But before going into that, let’s consider first that the person being interviewed is not a member of Trump’s inner circle, nor is he under consideration for a role in Trump’s administration. He’s labeled by the media as a ‘Trump Surrogate’, whatever that means, but in reality he’s a private citizen (albeit the head of a pro-Trump PAC) giving his opinion as a private citizen.

Now, as to your claim that ‘they’ are ‘planning to round people up into camps’, the words you presumably read actually state the opposite. Allow me to…elucidate:

> [@](#):
>
> Kelly: Come on, you’re not proposing we go back to the days of internment camps, I hope.
>
> Higbie: No, I’m not proposing that at all.
>
> Kelly: You know better than to suggest that. That’s the kind of stuff that gets people scared, Carl.
>
> Higbie: Right, I’m just saying there is precedent for it. And I’m not saying I agree with that.
>
> Kelly: You can’t be citing Japanese internment camps as precedent for anything the president-elect is going to do.
>
> Higbie: Look, the president needs to protect America first. If that means having people not protected under our constitution have some sort of registry to understand, until we can identify the true threat and where they are coming from, I support it.

Notice it was Megyn Kelly is the one who raised the issue of interment camps in the first place, not Higbie.

And the reason she did this was to draw an equivalence between that and a Muslim registry, which is what Higbie favors.

However Higbie _specifically states_ that he is not proposing internment camps at all, _and that he doesn’t agree with them_. In other more complete versions of the interview he even refers to them as ‘_horrific_.’

So the entire…and I repeat, entire…thrust of what Higbie is promoting is the creation of a registry to track Muslim immigrants in an effort to thwart terrorist attacks. Nowhere does he or anyone else affiliated in an official position with Trump say anything about ‘rounding’ anyone up, as you allege, nor about imprisoning them in internment camps, nor has anyone, not even Megyn Kelly herself, said so much as a word about ‘ethnic cleansing’.

Hey, remember back when Herman Short was Police Chief? [This story](http://lifeandtimesofvista.blogspot.com/2010/11/chapter-9.html) summarizes my memories of those days–although, as a white hippy chick, I never saw the worst of it:

> [@](#):
>
> When a local newspaper fortuitously captured a picture of a Houston Klansman dressed in white robes getting out of a Houston police car, police chief Herman Short was quoted in the _Houston Chronicle_ saying, “I see no contradiction between being in the Ku Klux Klan and being a Houston police officer.” The department knew that and acted accordingly.

Things have improved _a lot_ since then.

(My mother went to school with Short–she never thought much of him. His mother taught 6th grade at our school but neither I nor my sibs ever had her–she taught the slower class.)

What do you suppose he means when he says “there is precedent”? People don’t point out precedent except to justify in the present. When someone points at something illegal and horrifying and describe it as “precedent”, he’s admitted that he is contemplating something illegal and horrifying. Precedent is justification. How strange must be the inside of your head that you can’t or won’t understand that.

I suppose it’s needless to say I don’t agree that the conclusions you’ve leapt to and stated as fact are considerably less than so. It could be argued that since Kelly brought up the internment camps in an effort to draw either an equivalence or inevitability between them, Higbie chose to meet the issue head on rather than try to deny or hide from it. So he acknowledged that they had existed at one time in the past, and then in order to keep Kelly from trying to portray them as the product of right-wing evil, he pointed out that internment camps were ruled permissible by the Supreme Court at one time in the past, with the implication being that not only the Supreme Court viewed them as permissible but most of the country’s populace as well. He then went on to state clearly and unequivocally that he was not if favor of them, was not trying to create any of them, and further, that he found them horrific. Perhaps I should return your insult by observing how strange it must be to be inside your head that you can’t or won’t listen to the what actually said in order to convince yourself of the opposite.

That is interesting. Here is the segment right before where you started writing, where he mentions the Japanese during WWII:

Higbie: Yeah, and to be perfectly honest, it is legal. They say it will hold constitutional muster. I know the [American Civil Liberties Union] is going to challenge it. But I think it will pass. We’ve done it with Iran back a while ago. We did it in World War II with Japanese. Call it what you will … maybe wrong but …

Them Kelly clarifies that his mention is referring to the camps.
