1. Most people are far more concerned with agreeing with whoever else happens to be in the room than actually holding an opinion. Watch any conversation. Someone makes a statement, and it doesn’t take more than the guy next to them to go “well…” for them to start backtracking and going “OK, well, but I only meant that…” 2. Women act like this more than men. A heck of a lot more. 3. Even Dopers do it. 4. I never do it, which is reason nr. 473 why I don’t have any friends. 5. There should be a standing brigade of clowns whose job it is to call people out on this, set off klaxons and sirens every time it is observed, and then pie the offender in the face. ---

1. There are some experiences about which you should THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT before offering an opinion _if you have never been in the same situation_. Dire poverty\*, racism, and _ **parenting** _ fall into these categories. If you don’t have a child, please… just shut up before telling me how to raise my own. That two-year period where you took care of your sister’s kid for 3 hours every workday _does not qualify_. Thanks! 2. Football is a nasty, brutish sport which should die. I do know if I had a son, I would never, ever allow him to play the game. 3. Obama will go down in history as an “effective” President. Not in the top-10, probably, but no doubt in the top half. 4. Ben Bernanke, Tim Geitner, and Hank Paulson saved the global economy back in 2008-2009. 5. Comic book movies suck. There are too many of them, and people get WAY too involved in the story lines. \*“Dire” doesn’t include that time you were in college and had to eat Raman noodles for a week. It does include that time you had to choose between medicine and food. ---

1. Heavy Metal ballads should be illegal. 2. 2 or more bicyclers together qualify as a a vehicle. 1 lone bicycler does not. The lone bicycler is a pedestrian and should be penalized for jaywalking when holding up traffic. 3. Whenever the stay of an inmate given life instead of the needle exceeds the costs of an execution, that inmate should be moved to death row. 4. Liberals should just accept that conservatives know how to manage money. Some conservatives are actually not overzealous tea partiers and make sense. 5. Dogs rule. Your cat is stupid. ---

I’m not going to ask for a refund or anything, but several of these statements that you expect most of the board to disagree with seem like statements that most of the board would agree with. ---

Most of us (myself included) are approaching this as “if I make this statement, I will then have to constantly defend myself” and then ascribing this situation to “the most of the board.” For example: my SHOCKING statement that Obama is an effective President. Most here would ignore (or agree), but I would expect to be immediately rebuffed by certain posters and, if I care to, spend half my life explaining myself. ---

1. Religious leaders, each and every one, are shameless snake-oil salesmen who have found a way of manipulating people from behind a thin facade of good will. 2. Football and movie making are both businesses that profit from the crushed hopes of countless young people who followed the dream and been cast aside. Those industries both push the “follow your dream” message because it profits them to have a huge pool of hopefuls. 3. Gun violence in America is almost 100% the result of Hollywood’s (and TV’s, etc) fetishization of guns. 4. The US Constitution is designed to play ambious men against each other, to entertain them with a taste of power while preventing them from gaining too much, not to make lawmaking an efficient process. The process is delibrately cumbersome and should be made even more so. 5. _Pootie Tang_ was one of the best movies ever made. A work of genius what will never be fully appreciated, except maybe, one day, in France. Sa da tay! ---
