All that aside, the real issue we need to someone deal with is the ‘Reports hide posts/threads’ thing. I can’t imagine that’s a good idea. ---

I’d hope to see examples where it stifled good discussion, instead of minimizing hijacks, before calling it a bad idea. It’s an easily gamed system; but it’s also easy to see when it’s being gamed. ---

Agreed. I think there are some people imagining a cabal of posters who are conspiring to squelch posters they don’t like. ---

The only time I’d say I noticed it was abused was when a since-banned troll caused a thread with interesting discussion to be locked. Hardly a lefty conspiracy, that one. ---

Sorry Oakminster, time to pack your bags. You’ve now been targeted, and you will soon be banned for the racist, misogynistic use of the word “the” in context of a black woman. You know, the whole “straw that broke the camel’s back” argument that they are using now, while still fighting about the injustice of 3 strike laws elsewhere. The Straight Dope hypocrisy will continue to preserve ignorance instead of fighting it. ---
