My nom would have to be Oprah. The makeup, it is a must. When she was on that PBS show about living in the 1800s, I gagged. Here a site with her (and Renee) and a whole bunch of hideousness (Barbra, Melanie, Sharon, I’m, unfortunately, looking at you), although some are just being ordinary looking under normal circumstances. MTA, re: the likes of Renee Z.: My hypothesis is that women who start out (when young) as “cute” more than “gorgeous” lose those exact qualities, as they age, that once made them cute, and hence can turn ugly rather quickly if they have nothing else backing it up. C.f. Drew Barrymore, who lost her babyfat about 3-5 years ago (or had it all sucked out) and completely lost that adorably cute quality she once had, such that she now looks like a Stepford Wife. ---

I read that the Arnold shots that show him like that were taken a few weeks after he had (heart?) surgery and he was ordered by his doctor to rest and not work out, and that he normally looks better. ---

Yes, some of the women (especially the older women) don’t look so good without makeup (of course, they still look better than 75% of us will look at their ages). But most of them are absolutely beautiful. ---

There’s a magazine on the rack at the grocery store checkout stand right now with Alicia Silverstone on the cover. The picture looks like it’s _at least_ 10 years old. I think that’s one way the media keeps us confused about how stars grow old like the rest of us. ---

Re Anne Hathaway and Maggie Gyllenhaal: they’ve been tarted up to magazine stylists’ tastes of what’s Faaabulous. This seems to involve prodigious amounts of eyeliner, making Anne look vaguely like a RealDoll™ and Maggie like a 1920s German silent film actress. ---
