See subject line. Are you nostalgic for menstruation as a sign of youth and fertility, or is your attitude more along the lines of “Jesus H. Christ I’m glad I’m done with THAT nonsense”?

If there is one woman here who misses her period, not the other benefits of being pre-menopausal, but actually misses her PERIOD, I will eat my hat.

If we had a “like” button, I’d hit it a million times.

I can’t actually answer the OP, but at 37, I am starting to see the signs of peri-menopause, and I have to say that I am eagerly anticipating having the whole damn thing over with–even if I spend the next decade as batshit crazy as my mother was.

What the hell would there be to miss? Cramps? Bloating? Wild mood swings? Getting blood stains out of my underwear? I’ve been on the Pill for years at a time, and that usually reduced my periods to three days of very light flow. I’d still be on it if it hadn’t given me migraines.

I’m not quite post-menopausal yet as I keep missing that one year period-free mark. I’ve had three or maybe four periods in the last year, with a nice six-month gap, and believe me, when I got a period after that initial six months, I was most definitely NOT dancing in the streets at the return of the Scourge. I am 56. I’ve had regular periods since I was 12. Not gonna miss one single thing. It was never a reminder of youth and vitality…fertility, yes, but since I was only actively celebrating fertility for 15 of those 44 years, it’s not that great an experience.

The Scourge is a good name for it.

I don’t miss it one bit.

Ha, I came into this thread ready to goggle at anyone who says yes. What is there to miss?

You know what I miss, the days when my PCOS was out of control and I would only have 3-4 periods a year. Tops! Once I went 10 months, 10 wonderful months. I _knew_ how good I had it, too, but noooooo, I just had to lose weight and regulate my blood sugar and reduce my risk of dying of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.

Does such a woman even exist? Who are they and what is their damage?

I wear tampons. So you know, I once read this lengthy article about how every woman should rejoice in their period, it being what made them a woman, and how you should be OK with the blood, and it shouldn’t be a problem at all, and tampons were the work of the Devil (or man), etc.

So one weekend when I was home and got my period I switched to pads, rather dubiously, just to try and “experience being a woman”.

I hated it. Periods are disgusting. Every month my vagina bleeds. Now I have had the Essure treatment so I CANNOT have children. I am literally sterile. I am thrilled about this.

Yet every month my uterus continues to do its thing. I’m 37. I have probably 15-20 years left of this mess. And I have never had children. So it’s always been a completely useless exercise.

I keep reading this thing about wishing my uterus would just text me every month. “Yo, girl, whaddup? You’re not pregnant.” I would LOVE that.

Absolutely nostalgic. I never had PMS or any problems, and apparently am done with menopause at age 47, so maybe that’s why, but I definitely miss it. I had a thorough medical exam last year, and the doc told me that my childbearing years were behind me. I had a few more periods since then, and absolutely rejoiced. Not that realistically I’m going to crank out any kids…

Why? No jokes or sarcasm or anything. Seriously, why? What precisely do you miss?

When I saw the thread title, the first thought in my mind was a vision of gales of laughter from every woman opening the IMHO forum today.

My wife’s in her late 40s, and can’t wait for her period to stop showing up.

What, your period doesn’t have you singing, “Man, I Feel Like A Woman” ?

Just kidding! Stop throwing things at me! 😃

I cannot see how anyone would miss their period. Especially given that it seems to get worse with age. I’m 45 and practically have to carry an extra pair of pants around with me the first couple days. I’m counting down, hoping I have about 5-7 more years of this! Not to mention how awesome it would be not to have to worry about birth control!

Do you actually miss your period, the bleeding and stuff, or do you just miss what having a period represents (youth, fertility, etc)?

I can’t say I was ever that excited about it, maybe because I had one of those instant menopauses and had to recover from the surgery. But every few months I have a quiet moment of appreciation.

My wife never liked having sex during her period. (not unusual, I’m sure). So we are both glad that it’s not an issue anymore. I don’t know what’s common, but her sex drive hasn’t diminished, and we can do it whenever we want now. How’s that for a male perspective?

Kittenblue - you might want to check if what you are having is actually a period. I had this same experience and it turned out I was having periodic bleeding from uterine fibroids. I’d passed through menopause with no issues several years earlier! So they did a uterine ablation (dealing with the lining of the uterus) and poof! no more “periods.”

I miss my periods about as much as I miss the major uterine hemmorage I had at work which almost took my life in front of a group of strangers. Or, to put it more simply

HELL, NO!
