Add me to the chorus of "HELL NO"s!

I stopped having my period when I got my Mirena about seven years ago (at 32) and I’ve never looked back since.
But I remember telling a friend how much I love not having my period and she said “I wouldn’t feel like a woman if I didn’t have my period”. 😕
Me, I don’t need to bleed to feel like a woman, thankyouverymuch!

I used to work with a pharmacist who didn’t know that lesbians menstruate. :smack:

It’s posts like this that make me wish this place had a “like” button. 🙂

I figure I’ve got another 20 years of this crap to deal with, if I’m anything like Mom and Gran. Neither of them went through menopause until they were in their mid-50s and even then they both were surgically induced. The period itself isn’t the worst part, as mine is pretty light. It’s the migraines, the cramps, the exhaustion, the diarrhea…

> “Dear, please imagine something for me. Imagine that one morning, you wake up with blood dripping from your penis. Your back hurts, you feel like crap, your skin is breaking out, and blood is dripping from your penis. Nothing will make it stop for seven full days. It flows day and night. It soaks through everything you wear. Now imagine that you get to have that lovely experience every month – every month – for approximately 45 years. Now you know why I get ‘weird.’”

Not only this, but you can’t tell anyone what’s going on (except for close friends and family).

I’d love to be able to tell my boss not to send me out into the wilderness on a certain day because I’m likely to be on my period (and there’s nothing worse than being bloated, crampy, shitting and bleeding all over the place with no toilet in sight. I’ve done it too many times not to know how bad this can be). But it’s taboo to mention it. If I told my boss anything like this, he’d probably groan and cover his ears like some guys like to do whenever the topic is brought up.

And then there’s the idea that no matter how bad the cramps are, we have to power through them and continue to act as if everything’s alright, no matter how lousy we feel. Guys seem to think this is “empowering” when really it comes across as dismissive. Back in my hardcore workaholic days, I used to do the Utta Pipping thing and try to prove to the world that I wasn’t anyone’s menstrual victim. I’d be out in the swamps with the alligators bleeding my ass off, pretending I wasn’t miserable just so I could hang out with the guys. But now I realize how much shit that is. If I wake up bloated and crampy, I’m taking the day off. I don’t care how “weak” this makes me look.

Yeah…NO!

Periods have always been a bit irregular, generally only last a couple of days with only one or two heavy flow days, cramps handily taken care of by naproxin or ibuprofen, and while I’m finding it slightly odd that the time between periods seems to be longer and longer, I’m not missing it.

Not missing the blood-stained sheets because even a super ultra plus wasn’t enough absorbancy for overnight, (refuse to wear a diaper, sorry - pad, yuck), not missing wearing black pants for four or five days straight, just in case, or wondering if I have enough tampons to get me through until I can get to the drug store, ya know, cause there’s yer period at 9 am, surprise, surprise and you’re at work with one emergency tampon in your desk drawer, but gushing like a stuck pig…

Not having a child was a choice, but having that be no longer a conscious decision but a physical inability is a bit harder to reconcile, but that’s not the question.

So add me to the \*\*“hell no” \*\*contingent.

And did this guy think that girls didn’t start menstruating until they had sex with guys? This is seriously scary. Pharmacists are supposed to be able to recommend some medicines, and give customers help on medical issues. I mean, we don’t require them to be medical doctors, but they SHOULD know the basics of how bodies work!
