They’ve been great, but I did hear one slip: “and Sweden has the hammer in the tenth inning … uhh, I meant _end_.”

Here’s how it played out last time we did the Quixote/Quixotic dance on this board. Quixote, being a Spanish name is often pronounced in Spanish (different ways depending on where the speaker lives.)

Quixotic is not a word in Spanish, and that’s why we say it in English. OK? OK. 🆒

Right now, the Skeleton event is taking place on NBC. It’s pretty much the first time that skeleton has been seriously run on that course, so any time that somebody takes over first, “IT’S A NEW TRACK RECORD!” I’ve heard it three times now within ten minutes. We know. Anybody taking first gets the track record at the moment. Check.

Slight hijack: one of the men’s skeleton commentators/play-by-play guys is a soundalike of the guy who does (or used to, I don’t catch the show anymore) the rude voices (and visible lips) in the those TV skits on Conan O’Brien – the ones where Conan interviews a frozen image of a celebrity or politician on a TV set, with the live comedian’s moving lips superimposed on the face.

It just makes a surreal event a little more unintentionally comic.

This is along the lines of **Only Mostly Dead’s** post. I was watching the womans long track speed skating pursuit on CBC and during the final they mentioned how the Canadian team was the olympic record holder. Well no shit. This is the first time the sport has been in the olympics so natrually the team with the fastest time in the first two rounds is the olympic record holder…yeeesh.

I love Lindsay Kildow, don’t get me wrong and this isn’t a criticism of her but if I here one more time of how courageous she is I’ll puke. Yes the fall looked bad but she was relatively unhurt but she’s fallen before (as has everyone else in the field) and she’s gotten up before. This wasn’t a once in a lifetime event that happened.

I’ve been pretty disappointed with all of the skiing coverage (like usual). I know Todd Brooker was a World Cup skier, but he just doesn’t seem to be able to explain what’s going on (line, technique, tactics, etc.). At least it’s not Bob Beattie…

With Kildow, she did have to be transported by air medical, so it’s not like she just fell down, go boom.

Granted, but all I’m saying is that she has been a skier her entire life so one fall wouldn’t exactly put a lot of fear into her.

On another front, I’m sick and tired of hearing ‘hole shot’ and ‘transfer spot’ three times a race for the Snowboard cross. (hijack: I’m pretty sure Jacobellis missed a gate after she fell)

Along the same lines, I just heard an announcer refer to a move as “classic snowboardcross.” Ah, yes, it hearkens back to the golden days of yore - as long ago as two, maybe even three days.

They’ve had snowbaord cross events before this Olympics. Been around for years.

**drm** sure she’s skied her whole life, but she had to come back and ski the exact same course. I raced for a long time and had my share of falls, but when you came back it was a different course, usually a different hill. Not so here. It still looks to me like she’s skiing hurt, too. I’ll agree the coverage is overdone.

I agree on the snowboardcross, too. It’s fun to watch, but nobody really has anything interesting to say about it.

What she’s done is not nothing but I guess I just believe that most olympians _would_ play hurt considering how far they’ve come to get to where they are now.

When Vincent Desfrasne was doing his incredible Biathalon performance (15 0f 15 shots in the last 3 targets, so no penalty laps) and ended up winning gold, the announcers kept referring to him as “the Frenchman.” Yeah, I know it’s a competition among the nations, but the had the Nords names, and in other events the American’s pets names from 4th grade are bandied about. Just kind of a annoyance. The man has a name!

And then there was the side story, this being Italy and all, of the guy who wondered ON AIR about why they use pigs to search for chocolate. Had his truffles mixed up I will presume.
