The real query is a _group by_ expression so I can’t tell by running that exactly where the data is coming from. ---

Pantheon - Free and Healing for One Day and 9 Hours, while extending my life expectancy 2 Hours, by avoiding the use of 34 nicotine delivery devices that would have cost me $1.72. (heh, my quit counter auto copies the stats to my clipboard when you right-click it in systray, and I just IM’d them to a friend to reassure him I didn’t break down and smoke last night. BTW, yes, I was smoking some nasty $1/pk cigarillos at the end to try to force myself to quit.) ---

Oh dear. It’s an e-mail. This is embarassing: It’s your outlook on life, which so very much matches mine. I think we’re in really similar places right now. Have you read anything by Eckhart Tolle? You said you are looking for someone who is self-aware. If black is the opposite of white, if rich is the opposite of poor, if lima beans are the opposite of tasty food, then what is the opposite of “trudge daily, through which I often sleep-walk”? Awareness, maybe? I’m playing with this idea a lot lately, and I like it. Talking to friends about it, it’s amazing that most men think it’s weird voodoo stuff, but most women get it. Very nice. Your music sounds really interesting. I need to hear it. The last composing I did was not really composing, but orchestrating. I had the job of turning an opera composed for piano into an orchestral work. It was quite a chore, but when things came together it was really satisfying. I was proud to give it its world premier. My instrument? Since my life dream was to be a rock star, I took up the guitar. I’ve since moved on to the baton, the pen, and lately the paint brush. What does great music look like? ---

What you’re referring to is known as the sunk cost fallacy. Put simply, it works like this. Imagine you’ve been trying to get through a brick wall using only your head. After a while, you’ve made very little progress and your head hurts. By the logic you’ve used, you should keep going, otherwise, you have a killer headache for nothing. I’m not trying to attack you, just fighting a logical flaw I dislike. There are other reasons to stay in Iraq, but what the county has poured in, both in the terms of coffers and coffins, shouldn’t matter, because we can’t unspend them. ---
