Post your WTF? talk show moments here

You can see the video on YouTube and it’s just as bad as Nikki Tikki Tavi remembers.

I haven’t watched the Kristin Stewart interview, but I’ve seen a few with younger actors who did very well, like Dakota Fanning, and the little boy from Jerry Maguire. Maybe it’s easier if you’re younger – you’re not so self-conscious.

That’s right. I’m the asshole because I think it’s unrealistic to expect a shy 18 year old, who’s previous biggest acting accomplishment was appearing in a Jodie Foster movie and not sucking, to hold her own against a determined Letterman.

Jesus, I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy, let alone an actress I’ve never met.

I just watched the Stewart/Letterman interview again and it’s really not bad at all. Dave is very pleasant with her throughout (with a few oh-so-slight barbs thrown in when she said she was boring and then the bit about driving to Russia). Kristen is clearly a bit nervous and intimidated, otherwise she would have been laughing along with the audience at those points. Dave–like a good interviewer–keeps the conversation rolling and carries the weight of it when it is clear that Stewart cannot. But she does an adequate job of keeping her side of the conversation up. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t terrible and I don’t think either one of them should be criticized for it.

Dude, WTF???

Anyway, I remember one particularly painful interview with that kid from the show Seaquest, on Conan, probably from the mid-late 90s (was his name Jonathon something maybe?). Conan mentioned how he’d become a heart throb and a sex-symbol (or something to that effect) and he responded sarcasticly “yeah, maybe with young teenage girls” like he was too cool. A bit later Conan asked him if he hangs out with the others on the show and what do they do, and he responded that they go to strip clubs. The whole interview just seemed like he (Jonathon) was trying so hard and every answer made you cringe.

I think I remembering hearing this actor had committed suicide and I thought back to that interview at the time. Poor kid never got to know what it’s like to have your most cringe-inducing moments haunt your adulthood. (of course I’m glad mine were never on national TV).

Yes.

Upon review:
Justin, sorry that you can’t see past fandom.

An eighteen year old that’s in the “BIGGEST TEEN MOVIE EVER” has been groomed by the studio/handlers. She wasn’t professional in the Letterman interview or she was stoned. Take your pick.

I’m glad well he’s back started the thread. I personally wouldn’t jump to any of the ‘stoned, drunk or stupid’ conclusions. She seemed like a pretty bright girl for her age. Maybe a little awkward. I think when asked about college, she may have struggled to answer that specifically, because she maybe trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life now, and maybe feels self-conscious about not finishing high school.

BTW, you can check the South Park thread for “The Ungroundable”, I’m not a “fanboi” of any sort since that was the first I heard of how big this movie was supposed to be, nor have I heard of this young lady outside of this thread.

No need to apologize though, imo.

What was so bad about the Kristen Stewart interview?

Brother Theodore Rocks!

So funny in The Burbs

Nothing. Some people are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Freudian - compared to almost all talk show guests she seemed really off to me. Didn’t make eye contact, seemed drunk or stoned. Which she probably wasn’t. As I’ve said twice now, I don’t mean to be nasty and have nothing against her and am sorry I seemed so.

Most guests on these shows are so smooth and polished, or unique in an entertaining way, that when something else happens it’s notable. That’s why I started the thread - to see if other people had seen unusual guest behavior (since obv. I don’t watch everything myself). I think that’s why Grodin’s schtick was fun for him and the hosts.

I guess it wasn’t so much unexpected in concept, but in execution: Steve-O drunk on Carson Daly.

There was that Daily Show interview with Jonah Goldberg. I’d love to see the rest of it, if it is available anywhere.

On the “Tomorrow Show” in 1980, Tom Snyder interviewed John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten) and Keith Levine of Public Image Ltd. That itself is pretty bizarre; PIL never came close to an American hit and you usually only see superstar music acts being interviewed. Lydon spends the entire interview ranting about how tired rock is and how his band is totally original. The problem is that when Snyder asks him to specify what his band sounds like or how it is original, Lydon just keeps rambling on. Tom gets more frustrated and sarcastic. Check out the DVD “Tomorrow Show:Punk and New Wave” to see it in full.

I don’t know if this is truly a WTF moment, but it is a lousy interview - Paris Hilton interviewed by Craig Ferguson. Lame, lame, lame. She is the worst interview I’ve seen on Craig Ferguson. “I’m a rich, pretty party girl - I don’t have to be interesting or make any effort to have a decent conversation.” Bleah. 100% personality free.

Ouch…

  1. The night Regis Philbin, then Joey Bishop’s "Second Banana, lost it on Joey’s late night talk show, started crying and walked off the set.

  2. Sly Stone on Mike Douglas, stoned out of his gourd so bad, he couldn’t speak.
IIRC, they went to commercial and Sly was gone when they came back.

I’m also thinking that Mike gave Sly another shot during which Sly was sober.
