I keep seeing **tradesilicon** as “Triskellion” as in “Gamesters of …” And **lolagranola** I keep pronouncing in my head as Iolagranola, with a capital “I” instead of an “l.” But I “got” **Sue Duhnym** from the very beginning. 🙂 ---

“I am pun-ha, hear me roar” (sorry) Firstly, my home computer has a tiny monitor so I plead cheapness as a contributing factor. I saw **RealityChuck** as Reality **Ch_i_ck** for the longest time. For the record, you pronounce my SDMB name “Tee Hess Pose” and not “The Spoze.” It’s just my first initial and last name. No funny plays on words or anything. Yes, I did make the “Sea Lemon” mistake. Still fuzzy on iampunha. Sometimes I see “CrankyAsAnOldMan” as “CrankyAssAnOldMan” and very nearly abbreviated it as “CrankyAss.” Fortunately, I caught it when I hit preview and no one need be the wiser. ---

Most of mine have already been said. Some I “hear” wrong (even when I know how it’s really supposed to sound), others make me think of something else every time I see them and it always takes me a sec to get it right in my head: Sealemon = Sea Lemon Canthearya = Cant the RHEA Sue Dunhym - thought that was her real name until recently Arnold Winkleried - ditto rundogrun = RUN-doe-grun iampunha = I am POON-Ha THespos = THESS-pose brachyrynchos - makes me think rhinoceros mblackwell - makes me think Mr. Blackwell sdimbert - makes me think It’s Dilbert dietrologia = Diet-ro-lo-GEE-a Poysyn - Po-ee-SIGH-in Obfusciatrist = Ob-FOOS-cree-it I know there’s others in there but I can’t think of them right now. ---

Just for the record, in my name, the H is silent. As is the G and D. And the A and E’s. Also the S. Oh, and the M, too. It’s pronounced “Larry.” Why? Well, the L, A, R, R, and Y are invisible. ---

In my mind iampunha rhymes with tuna… Sealemon is seelamon… i never got the “silly man” or the “sea lemon”… kind of like a seal, but not. I don’t really know what I was thinking. For the record, mine’s pronounced “Beth” ---

My dyslexic mind was reading it as Santa, until I looked closer and it read Satan. My user name is spelled imthjckaz, but it is pronounced boB. ---

RealityCHUCK not chick! dah! ;;slaps head with hand;; imapunha = I read imapunha but hear My Sharonnah I mentally pronounced Brachy with a high Boston Brahmin accent until she told me that it sounded like rats. Then I found out that she, my only sister, missed pronounced my name. It’s Keeeeeef aaahh - like that resin from that special plant that makes you go ah after smoking it. ---

I just want to say that had it not been for this thread, I would have _never_ figured out **rundogrun**. Every time I see it I think of “Bang the Drum All Day” and Todd Rundgren! See evilbeth. I didn’t think there was a problem, till I read this list and the names of you folks who are posting on it! I have no idea how to pronounce: brachyrhynchos imthjckaz ignoscop THespos (thought maybe it was a play on “thespian”) Suo Na Makes my head spin. As for gender, well, a few of us have obvious gender-specific names, but the rest of you I just try to take in context of what you say. Makes my head hurt sometimes. ---

iampunha once explained how to pronounce his handle, but I’ve forgotten. It’ll always be “ee-am-puña” to me. The nh=ñ in Portuguese, and I took this Ethnographies of Brazil class a while ago, a side effect of which was learning how to pronounce Portuguese words. I can’t quite explain why my brain decided to pronounce his name in Portuguese, which I don’t speak at ALL, but that’s how I see it. It took me a while to get Sue Duhnym, too. ---
