There are a number of posters whom I often pity, and whom I wish weren’t wasting time spreading nonsense and hatred, even some whose very character (or its lack) I find contemptible, but none whom I actually _dislike_. ---

Actually, to address the point: Yeah, **Rev** , there are times when I post for no other purpose than to hand somebody a giggle. Usually, I have a point. Mostly. Sometimes, anyway. ’ I don’t see anything wrong with that. I’m not gonna see anything wrong with that. ---

To the OP: ‘Posters I can’t stand’? None anymore, for America made me proud yet again and those that I’ve, at times, vehemently opposed, have been shown The Door in no uncertain way. That’s pretty much required for humour in some cases. It’s just more along the lines that the point is then not backed up; keen incisiveness doesn’t do much if it’s not then applied to anything. But then i’m the kind of person who laughs and then asks “Yeah, and?” to Dorothy Parker quotes, so personal tastes, I guess. ---

Can’t remember who it was, but he was some guy putting together an anthology of American humorists (Volume one is Twain, volume two is everybody else…) and he wrote a forward about why he didn’t include Dorothy Parker, because he was expecting to, but when he read her stuff he couldn’t find anything that was actually funny. ---

Actually, over the years, I’ve discovered that I can’t stand 3/4 of the people who are willing to spend days and days of their precious lives arguing about stupid shit on the internet. I definitely used to be one of those people, but I eventually realized that it takes a pretty arrogant, self-important son of a bitch to try to drive his or her opinion into other people’s skulls through sheer will and a keyboard. I suppose that means I now can’t stand most of the SDMB. Such is life.
