Here is a dumb thing I should know how to do, but I don’t. A friend died and I want to post condolences on her FB page but there seems to be no way to do this. Can anyone give me a pointer?

I’m sorry for your loss. I’m not sure what you mean. You just go to their timeline and enter your comment under “Post,” where it says, “write something.”

I know people whose privacy settings do not allow anyone other than them to post. If her timeline is like that, you’ll need to put your condolences as a comment on one of her posts.

Strangely their timeline does not show any such options. Nobody else has posted anything. She died 4 days ago, or so I am told.

Unless that has been disabled in their privacy settings. I believe it’s on by default, but a sizable minority of folks do in fact disable it. Perhaps it was already set up like that before they passed, or maybe a family member did it since.

You can always send a private message, however.

Regardless, sorry for your loss.

Thanks. Not sure what it means to send a PM to a dead person, but I did. Life is weird. It seems like every week now someone’s dying.

You could also post it on your timeline, but then click the little dropdown by the Post button and select Custom, then limit it to only the person you want to see it.

I assume the point is to express condolences, so the family and friends can see it. Limiting the privacy to the deceased, or sending a PM, I’m afraid won’t do that. Let’s hope someone from the family is able to see private messages or private posts.

I’m sorry for your loss.

I think she had already disabled posting to her wall. I don’t know why I didn’t think of it earlier.

If you type her username @yourfriendsname it will go to her feed and her family will be able to see your condolences. Sorry for your loss.

It’s possible that someone who had access to the settings disabled that ability Soooooo that it wouldn’t come as a surprise to friends and family who didn’t need to find out via Facebook.
