Grammatically, it should be “give a beer to me”. The beer is what is being given, not me.

If someone said “Give a beer to me” I would assume the person is from France, or some other loser country, and hasn’t yet learned how to speak English the way normal people do.

“Give me a beer” is exactly as grammatical as “Give a beer to me.” In English, anyway.

We’ll go with the answer provided by **silenus** : Give me two beers. (Bangs gavel)

I’m pretty sure it’s just, “Beer me.”

As in, “Tuna, beer me that pen.”

“Drive me to the car” and “drive the car to me” have two separate meanings.

Or consider the old joke: “Call me a taxi.” “Okay, you’re a taxi.” Grammatically, it should be “call a taxi for me” but we figure out the intent of “call me a taxi” or “give me a beer” from the context.

But realistically, it’s like arguing people should say “It is I” rather than “It’s me”. The ungrammatical line has become familiar and the correct construction sounds strange.

Just thought of the one I hate the most…when people refer to their husband as DH, or their daughter as DD, or son as DS…the D stands for “dear.” Barf. Your dear husband? Is that really necessary? By the fact that you married him we can assume he’s “dear” to you, but calling him that on a messageboard is excessively cutesy and annoying as shit.

Or conversely, starting a post or email with “Dear All”. It’s simultaneously familiar and impersonal. I get you’re including everyone (hence the “all,”) but to me it’s contradictory. “Dear” should be reserved for singling someone out (“Dear Uncle Bob”), not addressing a group of people.

Really? “Loser country” is funnier than “cheese-eating surrender monkeys”? Now I’m starting to wonder whether that whole Jerry Lewis urban legend is true after all.

As a 99er (thankyoubiggirl), I can assure you that not all the “in jokes” are universally known and understood and therefore stale.

“Hi, Opal!” I know and have known since forever.

20 minutes and Rio…? Nope, I got nuthin.
