Probably they just didn’t mean to write it like that.
Something else that drives me up that wall…it’s not really a posting style but almost every single thread that we have here about tattoos seems to include at least one shitter. I’m not sure why. I don’t understand why a bunch of tattooed people, minding their own business, talking about tattoos can’t just do it in peace. Someone will inevitably come in and tell us how we’re destroying are bodies or how all tattoos look awful or whatever.

They seem to be even more rabid about it when it isn’t people talking about tattoos but when someone is asking something about their first tattoo that they planning to get. Then the shitter seems to feel like there’s still time to save the person.
For those of you that don’t look at tattoo threads here is an _extremely_ common incident. I’m not singling this shitter out, it’s no different then what I see in almost every tattoo thread.
Just recently a thread was started where someone was asking for some design help on their ‘mid life crisis tattoo’ we gave the poster out thoughts on the flash they provided, there was some back and forth and some general tattoo discusion and then this

> [@](#):
>
> FWIW - don’t get a tattoo. They are not cool and they look like suppurating skin rashes.
> Find some other way to handle your midlife crisis that doesn’t involve body disfigurement.

I don’t understand the need to do this, but like I said, it happens in virtually every tattoo thread participate in. I guess, I can sorta kinda understand why someone might feel some need to try to prevent some random person on the internet from doing something they don’t approve of that isn’t going to affect them at all, but why do it when it’s a bunch of tattooed people sitting around talking about them? Why even click on a thread about that if it bothers you so much? It’s not like it’s hurting anyone.

Give me a beer.
Bring me a book.
Recommend me a restaurant.

It sounds weird and imperative, because it is, but it’s grammatical.

All the old “in jokes” that have been in use since the beginning of time (“Hi Opal!” “Once, for 20 minutes”, “Rio”, etc) They’re stale, they’re over-used, they’re no longer funny. Do something original, PLEASE.
“Resolved:” also gets on my nerves, for some reason.

Nah, they probably did mean to write it like that. It’s a reference to a possibly apocryphal joke Churchill made when an editor corrected something he wrote with the old axiom of never ending a sentence in a preposition. Churchill responded with a note reading [“This is the sort of English up with which I will not put.”](http://public.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/churchill.html). It loses pretty much all of its humor when used out of context, and the poster employing that construction does not sound as clever as they probably think.

Nope. But just like typing in all caps, it’s something that most of us learn very quickly not to do. Continuing to do it means you just don’t care about board protocols – the rules don’t apply to you.

It was a joke. It bugs me when someone writes a sentence that starts off with ‘probably.’ As in “Probably he just forget to buy the milk” or “Probably you can gas after work if you don’t have time right now.”
I started a thread about it a few months ago and from what I was told, as awkward as it sounds, it is proper English. I guess, if you substitute probably for something like ‘perhaps’ or ‘I suppose’ it sounds better and means the same thing so maybe it just sounds clunky in my head.

It’s not just tattoo threads, although they get several people. There are quite a few specific topics (which naturally I can’t think of right now…) that somebody always has to rag on.

Can we just say thread shitters in general too? [This thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=630561) is the worst I’ve seen lately.

I hate those assholes who sign off. I hate that they make multiple posts in thread inside of a single hour yet always sign off on each one. Make up your fucking mind, are you in this discussion or not? It’s like they’re saying “over” on a walkie talkie.

I hate when posters use their handle to cutely refer to their kids or spouse. Example: I took the Quenchling and Quenchette to the zoo. Fuck off with that shit. I don’t even care who you are let alone the dipshits in your life. Wife. Daughter. Husband. Son. Use the fucking titles that we all agreed on.

Using “This.” instead of “Agreed!” or better yet, “Hear, hear!”. Can you imagine the sort of gentlemen who used to heartily bellow “hear, hear” instead dryly intoning “This. So much this.”?

 \<-- That shit right there should get your ass banned. I can’t believe it’s allowed as heavily moderated as this place is.

“Og.” You can write God or god or goddamn, you hyper-considerate pussy.

Highjacking. But they finally banned that prick.

Yeah, loud pipes stuff always gets everyone going. That one was odd since EvilTOJ made the comment about loud pipes when the thread was about the ape hangers. It really came out of no where.

I know it’s kind of turned into a way of avoiding saying god, but for the record ‘Og’ was originally an inside joke along the lines of Hi Opal or Rio.

You don’t need to quote the whole goddamn thing; either quote a relevant sentence or just say something like “as regards to the OP:” and then say what you want. I already read the OP, I don’t have to read it again to know what the fuck you’re talking about.
>
> Second, and I think this is worse, don’t over parse. Don’t quote the first sentence from a post, respond, quote the next sentence from the same post, respond, etc etc. I see some posts that have upwards of eight or ten quote boxes for a single fucking paragraph. That shit is unreadable. You break up the flow of the original post and all it says about you is that you can’t write a decent paragraph in response. Get your fucking thoughts in order and post something cohesive. It is possible to respond to a multiple point post without putting each motherfucking sentence in its own quote box.

> Anyway, I’m leaving this open for everybody to bitch about whatever they hate.

I don’t mind either of these things, and I can’t quite see how they could irritate someone much. True, they are the sort of thing one says only on a message board – you’d never say them in real life. So, if your ideal is that this board resemble real-life conversations as closely as possible, then these things could be annoying.

Personally, purging this board of all its unique traits would make it boring for me.

I doubt that “This” is unique to the SDMB and I know that spouse/child/cat references based on user handle aren’t. The former could be replaced with a “like” button (how unique is that?) and the latter was cute the first dozen times I saw it, 10 or more years ago.

Somebody with a little board cred ought to collate the big offenders into a list.

Man, I agree with so many of these things, but one I haven’t yet seen in this thread is the cutesy-tutesy “I loves me some…” It sounds childish and almost like baby talk. Or when people really emphasize how much they love something:

“I loooooooooove it! Lovelovelove it!” Or “I lurve it!” “Lurve” was funny when Woody Allen said it in _Annie Hall,_ but that movie was released in 1977.

A third thing that bugs me is, “Why yes, I am X (could be comic geek, nerd, stalker, or something else), why do you ask?” We didn’t ask, so don’t say we did. It’s not cute that you put that, it sounds childish, and you’re trying too hard to be cute.
