Fascinating. I’m bumping this thread because another Pit thread just came back to life with an example of the “posting while drunk” phenomenon. When I read it, I thought, “I KNOW I’ve seen a thread/rule against posting while drunk…” And here it is, and that’s not what it says at all. And I was sober when I read it, too. Probably good guidance for me, regardless of the rule or lack thereof. If I ever hit the boards after a few turns at the single malt collection, I’d have Anaamika bent over a hard wooden chair and … Well, I’ve said too much already. ---

I was just thinking the other day that we ought to invite more spouses to participate in (or, at least, read) the SDMB. ---

Heh. I’ve sent my husband enough stuff from here over the years, or replied, “From the SDMB” when he asks, “Where’d ya get that?” that I suspect he lurks here, but hasn’t told me. 😃 Mostly, he doesn’t get this place, though. He had an argument here once, and decided that it wasn’t for him. (Even though he debated well.) Is that pretty much par for the course? I notice that there’s lots of people here who’s spouses don’t openly participate…and then there’s the select few teams…and then there’s people that flame out together. ---

[/QUOTE] Exactly. If a person is an amusing drunk, no problem. But if a person “Posts While Impaired” and is a jerk while doing so…but is generally a “Poster In (usually) Good Standing”? (IOW, generally a good person who is really NOT a jerk, but becomes one because they are PWI) It generally leads to that poster wishing they had not done this PWI because they presented themself in such a way as to be afraid to pull up the SDMB in the AM and to feel that they had to try to figure out a way to do “damage control.” And sometimes they might have behaved badly enough to beg the Moderators to delete threads or individual posts. Which has to be trying for the Mod’s. I myself have posted when I was in a BAD MOOD for other reasons and later wished I could erase said posts. I have never asked the Mod’s to remove those posts, preferring to just apologize for being a twit and hoping for the member’s understanding and forgiveness. (Which I’m never sure if I GOT or not, but all I felt I COULD do was apologize) But I think that once a pattern of posting while impaired and regretting it later has been established, it is within the scope of the Mod’s responsibilities to request that a poster NOT do it again. BTW…from my perspective, **Homer** was never one of the ones I thought should apologize. I thought he was hilarious under the (whatever) influence.
