> I wonder about that too. I don’t have to worry about that, and neither does my husband, but I saw a border security episode where dogs smelled pot on people who were not found to be carrying. I go to the US from time to time and would hate to be stopped or have my car taken apart because of this.
>
> Frankly I’m sick of it, and I’m not optimistic the problem will be fixed soon. The back stairs are rotting apart…we were supposed to get new steps this summer. I guess summer isn’t officially over but we were promised this in May/June.

> I actually support legalization, and I believe in medicinal use anyway. I don’t smoke anything and I hate smelling any kind of smoke in house. I hang clothes in a separate closet from my husband, I don’t like smelling like his cigarettes. (And he only smokes outside). I would be just as upset if it was cigarette smoke wafting g up. The fact that marijuana is still a controlled substance is just an extra reason to hate it.
>
> Another question. Although it would be awkward and require annoying set up and take down would running my portable air conditioner in the bathroom help? The window is in the shower
> Or would this just pull more smokey air up from downstairs?

The AC will help dry everything out, but it won’t help with the smoke. It only cycles/recycles air. It draws air in from outside blows it over the condenser coils and sends it back outside\* and it the air that’s in the conditioned space is continually blown over the evap coils.

Now that I think about it, your best bet is probably just to get a box fan, put it in the window, blowing out and close the bathroom door (no towel under it, don’t bother with the exhaust fan). Anything that creeps up should go right out the window. Worked for us in college.

As for the stairs. This is clearly bugging you. Maybe the next time the landlord is over you could let him see all the fans and just mention to him there’s a lot of smells drifting up and let him take care of it. If you’re lucky he’ll be the type of landlord who won’t get your involved he’ll just go down there and say that HE was upstairs and noticed it on his own.

\*Assuming there’s two hoses (hose within a hose, often times) going out the window).

Have you considered removing the vanity doors so that everything can dry out faster? You can put them back as soon as things are dry, and then temporarily cover the hole while you await the handyman’s repairs.

Put a fan inside your vanity blowing air back into the wall that is open. This will help dry the wet areas, and push the skunk smell back downstairs.
