I have this problem: my monitor doesn’t shut down automatically when i set it to power down after 5 minutes. the first time i set it, and apply the settings, it works, but then when i restart the system, it doesn’t work even though the settings say power down in 5 minutes i have win98, and the monitor is energy star compliant. anyone know why this would happen? ---

What does the power management icon in the control panel say? Also, Got the right monitor selected & the right driver? ---

try checking in safe mode that there isint more than one monitor in the device manager – Win98 has a nasty habit of more than one Check the power management setting in the BIOS – whatever it is set to currently – switch it to the other setting If you dont have the specific driver for the monitor set it to a plug and play monitor – its a good generic driver
