Power strip that can be turned on/off at the plug end?

If you are now using a power strip it will be rated at 15 amps or less. The switch is rated at 15 amps

You could always replace that outlet with this device, a receptacle with a switch. This is rated for 2400 watts. And it’s pretty easy to install. But you do lose one of the outlets of the usual duplex receptacle.

They may be a bit scarce this time of year, but at Christmastime, look for remote-controlled outlets and plug strips. I’ve got a couple from Target that work nicely controlling lights in the garage. The outlet up in the rafters is unswitched, so the (now retrofitted with LED tubes) fluorescents plug into the strip and the remote is mounted by the door. I forget how long the battery in the remote works - it’s in the year or two sort of range.

Repeatedly inserting/removing a plug into an outlet will eventually wear out the grippy parts inside the outlet, and also loosen up the various attachment points that hold the outlet in its junction box. My house is about 25 years old, and since moving in about a decade ago, I’ve replaced many of the outlets in it because they no longer gripped plugs very well and/or had become wobbly in their junction boxes.

It’s the first item on this list (and many similar lists).
