Someone already mentioned holst. I would add Jupiter “the bringer of jolly”. From elgar Pomp and circunstance, and as an argentinian Ginastera’s malambo from his ballet “estancias”

Stravinsky’s _Firebird_ has already been mentioned; I’d like to add that _The Rite of Spring_ also nicely fills the bill – if causing a riot isn’t powerful enough for ya, I don’t know what is. 😃

R. Vaughn Williams’ Folk Song Suite, especially movements 1 & 2. 3 is more triumphant/celebratory.

Oooh, now that I think about it, there’s _got_ to be something by Stockhausen which’ll fit the bill. Anybody got any suggestions?

_Danse Macabre_ by Camile Saint-Saens is dark and foreboding, and I’m sure you’d recognize it. Also, from Saint-Saens, try his Symphony #3 in C-minor (“Organ Symphony”). Especially the final movement. The rendition I listen to most often just blows me away, especially when the organist (Virgil Fox) really lets go.
