It was a clever joke, but apparently there weren’t enough of us who had been watching women’s tennis to have any idea what was being referred to. ---

You need to have seen women’s tennis to know FILA about as much as you need to be a lawyer to know Brooks Brothers. ---

It’s just occurred to me that maybe other countries pronounce FILA differently to the Brits … we say “feeler” … My daughter’s American penfriend, when they were talking on the phone, got very confused when my daughter said she had a new pair of Adidas (ADDY-dass) trainers … apparently it is pronounced a-DEE-dus over the pond. I’ve heard FILA pronounced both FEEL-la and F-EYE-la. ---

My boss is a Brit and he pronounces idea as idear. j\_kat you’ve whoosed me again - I have never heard of Brooks Brothers. From the context, I am going to assume it is a brand of men’s clothing popular with Lawyers (should I infer yuppies?) ---

I’m sorry to report that the practical joker was at it again the other day at Wimbledon. The butt of the pranksters warped humour was the gallant Frenchman Sebastien Grosjean who, incidentally, put out our own Tim Henman in what must surely be the match of the championship The wag had festooned Grosjeans shirt and cap with small images of a crocodile. Clearly this was meant as a reference to the unfortunate Gallic tendency of eating anything remotely amphibious! I just hope Mr Grosjean encountered no real “snappers” upon entering the mens locker room, being filled as it is with towel snappers.
