Pre-Lighted Christmas Tree: yeah or nay?

When my kids were small we loved the whole experience of shopping for a tree, bringing it home and having a decorate the tree party.

Now I just slap a prelit 2 footer on my bar.

Oh man - there’s a Michael’s just down the street from where I’ll be this afternoon - I MUST STOP AND SEE THIS. Hopefully my Michael’s will have one that is similar. I can’t wait!! Neon pink feather tree - that just screeches Christmas, don’t it? Screeches it loudly. Very very loudly.

(My SIL wants one of those upside down trees - she saw it in the LTD Commodities catalog. I’ve come to realize that my SIL is a twisted, and more than slightly disturbed, individual. I REALLY REALLY hope she doesn’t pull my name in the family grab bag. :D)

I love my pre-lit tree! Mine has white lights, but they have multi as well. You just have to look if you want multi.

I’m getting this one this Christmas. It’s gonna be awesome.

A bit of Googling reveals that feather trees were the original “fake” Christmas trees. Some are in museums, with spare folk-art decoration.

But I’ll bet the one at Michael’s is more like this one. Which is one of the more conservative ones at the site.

In contrast, the pre-lit tree mentioned by the OP seems downright old-fashioned. I love the real ones, of course. But not the danger from fire. And falling needles. And climbing cats…

We have a 12’ one, and it’s great.

One thing I will say though: it weighs about 100lbs and is an absolute BEAR to get in and out of the attic. I dread the third weekend of November every year.

I ordered one from SamsClub today. Hopefully I’ll like it. I’m somewhat pleased to hear a lot of positives because I hate stringing lights.

Yes, possibly old fashioned. Here’s what I ordered.

Looks like I’m in the minority here, but IMHO any fake tree is tacky. Tudging through the snow to pick out the perfect natural chrismas tree is part of what makes it christmas! And you’ve got to have the smell!

Oh well, to each his own.

it appears i am one of the few who order a lighted and decorated tree from jackson and perkins. odd---- they usually sell out.

my tree rarely lasts after may… but i keep trying.

Oooh, pretty! I like the foot pedal to turn the lights on and off, I’ve never seen that before. I always put mine into a power strip so I don’t have to wrestle the tree to get to the plug to pull it out of the wall socket every night.

I love the prelit trees! My parents have three of them at their house (one in the living room, one in the family room, and one on the patio by the pool – mom’s a little obsessed. :)) Do you have any idea how long it takes to string lights on three Christmas trees? Give me the prelit trees any day.
