Pre-OP Urine test?

This. Went in yesterday for a two-minute, outpatient biopsy and the first thing they did was hand me a cup for a pregnancy test. I actually had to ask “WTF”?, as I was sure they had the wrong patient chart or something.

I’m an OR Nurse. Prior to any surgery we do a set of blood chemistries, blood count, chest xray, ECG, urinalysis, height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, and pulse rate. We’re doing this not so much to treat the patient but to treat the potential lawsuit that will surely follow if anything goes wrong-no matter how unavoidable. Even if nothing goes wrong, there’s still a chance of getting sued.
