So let it be written; so let it be done! (said by Yul Brynner, who ought to be on this list anyway, and which should usher in other such quadrupeds as folks are prone to mention – but I won’t! )
I’ll repost the updated list after more new arrivals. The count (not including dupes) is now at over 60 as of my previous post. Keep 'em coming!
We may have to resort to a bracket instead of a big old poll to do this list justice.
I’d advise bracketing so John Wayne and Clint Eastwood square off in the final.
Yes, indeed! I’m not all that good at brackets, so if somebody else would like that chore – whenever the time comes – I would not only not object, I would be happy!
My idea was to wait until the thread has been idle for a few days (5 maybe) before launching into whatever voting we do.
============================
ETA: It might help if we add to this short list those who ought to be in the Top Ten so they’re not up against each other in the early rounds.

Or is it possible to set up a poll where people get to spread ten votes among as many candidates as they choose? Then you could have several rounds of voting, eliminating the lowest vote-getters in each round.
Yes, we’ve done that sort of thing before and it might be a good option here.
I had even entertained the idea of breaking the list into decades or periods so that it might be more of an apples to apples thing. That would let some of the old-timers (30s-50s) be on a level field and not competing against the newer crowd.
Other options are still worth considering. Let’s hear some more ideas.
Some of these guys were more TV cowboys than movie cowboys, so that may be a division. Chuck Connors and James Arness come to mind immediately, along with Guy Madison and Richard Boone.
Nick Adams was another TV star with Johnny Yuma, The Rebel. I think Johnny Cash sang the theme song.
Whatever happened to Randolph Scott
Whatever happened to Johnny Mack Brown
And Alan Rocky Lane
Whatever happened to Lash Larue
I’d love to see them again
Whatever happened to Smiley Burnett
Tim Holt and Gene Autry
Whatever happened to all of these
Has happened to the best of me
If you’re doing a TV division then Michael Landon should be added to the list.
My only objection to that is that in all other incarnations of that kind of polling, simple math shows that few people rarely stick to this model. I’d prefer one-person/one-vote and that will thin out the lower-grade candidates easily.
I agree, this is a more fair way to approach things, IMHO.
