> Yeah, Genesis is an entity so powerful demons and angels would go nuts to control it. It’s got to have a lot more power than simply telling people what to do.

Though we should remember that Genesis doesn’t necessarily confer all its power to its host. We haven’t yet seen any signs consciousness by Genesis. Is it explicitly giving Jessie these powers or does he just automatically have them when Genesis is cozied up in his abdomen?

I suspect Genesis is an infant, and one of its kind and doesn’t know itself what it’s capable of, and Jesse definitely doesn’t know how the power works or what he can do with it. Should be fun watching how it works out.

My suspicion, which I mentioned earlier, is that the Cowboy sidestory will deal with the creation of Genesis. That would make him/her ~140 yrs old, which I would still agree is an infant in celestial terms.

I’ll spoiler this about the Cowboy, in case people who haven’t read the comic want to see his story unfold:
From [Preacher Episode 6 Annotations: Meet The Heavenly Host](http://www.superherohype.com/features/377385-preacher-episode-6-annotations-meet-the-heavenly-host#/slide/1)

“The Other Option”

After Jesse tells DeBlanc and Fiore to ‘stay away from him,’ Fiore mentions that they have ‘the other option’ to retrieve Genesis which DeBlanc quickly shoots down. Fiore is definitely referring to The Saint of Killers, the cowboy whose origin we’ve seen unfolding throughout the series so far. In the comics, they release the Saint almost prematurely and set him about on a path of unending violence to retrieve Genesis. Clearly the series is playing their cards close to the chest with the Saint, but I think we’ll see him by the season’s end.
The concept of infancy seems rather bizarre in the case of an immortal being. I guess it’s lifespan is only infinite in one direction—which is not really infinite at all.

There’s been tons and tons of immortal characters in fiction, and almost all of them had some sort of childhood, or, at least, a definite starting point to their lives. Sometimes two, if their immortality was acquired, rather than innate. Hell, per most traditional Christian beliefs, each and every one of us is immortal, if we accept Jesus, and we were all infants at one point, too.

Late to the party here. I watched the first episode a few days ago and have since caught up. I never read the comics and definitely spent the first few episodes in a sea of “Who’s that? What’s this? What does this have to do with anything?”, occasionally interspersed with me reading up on the comics online to fill in the blanks. I’m enjoying it so far, despite having to listen to several of Cassidy’s lines two or three times to figure out what he’s saying.

I have the feeling that Jesse is headed towards a Jonestown sort of moment - he’s going to destroy Anneville while attempting to save it, and that’s going to lead to him going on the “road trip” the comics were built around. I like the dynamics of the relationship between Jesse, Tulip, Emily, and Cassidy, and the way all the minor characters are intertwined (the supposedly abusive husband who’s just into S&M being Quilcannon’s secretary, for example). It’s interesting that Genesis appears to have originated in the same era as “the Cowboy”, and I’m sure that’s going to get touched on at some point.

I’m definitely curious to see what’s going to happen to Eugene. As a character, he’s so timid and placatory towards everyone that it’s almost impossible to imagine him ever having been suicidal, and who knows what Hell (if that’s where he’s ended up) is going to do to his psyche. I can almost see Jesse and the angels riding into Hell (a la the Harrowing of Hell) to rescue Eugene’s soul.

Last night filled in a few of the blanks about Eugene (and Jesse, in retrospect), and it appears The Voice effect either isn’t permanent or Jesse and Odin have a different opinion on what “Serve God” means. Seems that Jesse is going a little dark side here.

I’m starting to lose interest. Sure, the plot is filling in a lot of blanks, but I’m not really all that invested in those particular blanks. It’s hard to put my finger on what the problem is, but I just find myself easily distracted while watching. It’s just not “pulling me in” like I’d want it to.

I’m going to give the new show about the Chicago Mob a go, and if that looks any better, I’ll probably drop _Preacher_ for that one.

_Shite_ is also a popular pronunciation in Australia.

ETA: Also Ireland, where Cassidy is from, and they don’t often take kindly to being called “Brits” there.

I’m still confused on who came in after Jesse’d dad (and why), but they did have the same tattoo that Jesse has on his back.

My WAG would be that Odin is big on the whole “God gave man dominion over the Earth” idea, and thus he was serving God by getting rid of the people who were standing in man’s way of exploiting the Earth’s natural resources to the utmost.

I have a bad feeling about what happened to Cassidy after he exposed himself, but I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him. He’s probably going to end up feeding on one of Odin’s goons in order to patch up his burns (IIRC, he said he doesn’t need to drink blood, but that it helps him heal when he does so).

Also, I’m now wondering whether vanilla hash browns are any good.

Just don’t put the vanilla right on the cookie sheet. Apparently.

Me too - I guess this another “wait & see” kind of story line, so I’ll be patient with it but am very anxious to understand why they shot him, and why it had to be in front of Jesse

Kind of a brooding and tension setting episode so certainly not my fav. It does suggest serious action and plot movement is close at hand though. Looking forward to next few episodes.

Have we seen anything to suggest Odin believes in God? He could very well see himself as God and interpret the “serve God” command to mean furthering his own interests and remove “obstacles” that get in the way of that.

He certainly looks up to his daddy and his granddaddy for taking care of things. Maybe serving God to him means honouring their memories.

My guess is that Odin’s Alamo re-creation hobby is

somehow a parallel with his looming attack on Jesse’s church. Overwhelming numbers attack a lone Texas church defended by a vastly inferior garrison.

Or as his name suggests, he subscribes to the Norse gods? Maybe he decided to serve Loki or Thor?

Dark side I’d be OK with, but it seems right now he’s mostly just being a dick, and I have to say it’s dampening my enthusiasm for the show.
