From what I’ve read they’re ignoring the lame AVP movies and going back to what made the original great - dudes with guns who know how to use them vs. Predators.

Except that the lead dude with a gun who knows how to use it is Adrien Brody. That’s going to be a hard sell.

Here’s the thing about that: TV and movies have trained us all to expect soldiers to all look like professional wrestlers; the truth is most military men, even Navy SEALS, look a hell of a lot more like Adrian Brody than Arnold.

Indeed.
In fact, the only problem with Brody is that he’s too tall. Most special ops guys are average height or shorter - smaller targets, you see.

Who cares about the truth? This is a movie about jungle mercenaries fighting giant Rastafarian space monsters. The lead should look like he can hammer steel ingots into flat sheets using his cock as the hammer and his inner thigh as the anvil.
Adrien Brody has not convinced me of his penile blacksmithing abilities.

I just want to say that this was an awesome post. At the very absolute least, this movie will have spawned this post so therefore, I cannot ever completely hate the movie.

Having met a few spec ops guys, I can tell you that being above average height does not disqualify you.

Not been to the cinema in years - since whenever Inland Empire came out. It was always going to take a masterpiece to get me back, and this could be it.
The first AvP was pretty good - was it really that different in style / execution from it’s antecedents? Not really IMO. I accept that the second one was atrocious, which is saying something when you consider the implicit awesomeness of having aliens and predators in the same film.

Yeah, perhaps “lame” is a bit loaded. _Alien vs. Predator_ was watchable, but it wasn’t what even half of what it was promised to be.
