Yes, we’re due for a return of some key 80s fashions. Leg warmers will be back with a vengeance, I would guess, no later than mid-2005. Permed haircuts with huge bangs will follow close behind.

However, I don’t see a return to torn sweatshirts. I think we’re going to see an extension of the current urban trend of wearing nothing but replica sports jerseys and pants, into replica corporate logo anything. The kids will sport colour-coordinated outfits singing the praises of cell phone companies, automobile manufacturers, and soft drink conglomerates.

Shoes will get smaller, and it will become fashionable for girls to go about barefoot. That’s a current Hollywood thing, so it’ll be commonplace among females within a year and guys within two.

The super-huge pants thing will crash and burn in 3-4 years and we’ll be back to tight pants for guys. I think we’ll start to see a bit of a 60s flavour there, with tight pants in materials other than denim or leather. Tight cords, tight dressy slacks.

Men’s fashion is probably going to become - I loathe to use this word, but I can’t think of a better way to describe it - gayer. Stereotypically, anyway. The flashy “bling bling” thing is just as gay as a French horn, which nobody seems to notice, but it’ll get even more so and become mainstream; guys wearing a lot of jewelry, outrageous retro clothes, feather boas, even those halter T-shirts. You won’t be able to tell the teens from Queen.

Among the kids, the “Goth angsty teen vampire” fad probably has a few more years left in it, but by 2010 it’ll be as dead as Dillinger. Look for a preppy vs. country punk battle at a high school near you.

I think you guys call them sweat pants. In Australia, we call it a tracksuit. The pants are tracksuit pants, or, as dacks is Australian slang for pants, tracky dax.

I conjecture that within 1-2 years, bright neon 80s style crepe-y hats will have replaced foam and mesh trucker hats, which are definitely well on their way away from cool.

Another vote for mens hats. I am 27 and thinning. There is still hope for me if this starts catching on soon!

Your wish is [granted](http://www.utilikilts.com/)

Me? I’d like to see a return of men’s powdered wigs.

I agree with all the posters who said a return to 80s fashion is possible–trends seem to cycle around every 20 years. I just saw a guy with one strap of his overalls unbuttoned and hanging loose, just like back in the early '90s.

Give it time. For some reason, the West coast seems to be three years behind, fashion-wise, even though it’s only three hours behind, time-wise. That’s already passe, on the East coast. The new trend is bill-forward, but cocked to one side, as witnessed by the Little League World Series and some Major Leaguers.

You _want_ to see people walking around in green bowlers?

FWIW, I’ve already seen some of the predictions folks have made, come true. I saw butt cleavage last week (nice butt, scary looking girl). And, I’ve seen a few asymmetrical hairstyles, including on the butt cleavage girl, but more often on guys. And, the Goth thing seems to be fading, at least around here. There seems to be a new mini-trend to a sort of pseudo-renaissance look, which _could_\* be it’s replacement. But, it could also be a completely different group that it appeals to.

And, I love hats! If I could find somewhere that sells decent ones, I’d wear them regardless of what the fashionistas might say.

I’m not sure that’s really what Metrosexualism is really all about… seems to be more of a fashion-related term regarding tastes in clothing, furniture, and a general, over-all “look” than foisting make up on men. I think [this article](http://www.goodvibes.com/cgi-bin/sgdynamo.exe?CODIV=0102&UID=2003082409484512&HTNAME=magazine/features/sex_and_culture/2003083.html) in good vibes did a good job with the concept.

Pubic Pony-tails and hair extensions.

Visible Organs. (in other words, having little windows installed on the body so that others can see your heart, brain, or spleen).

Shoulder hair (ON the shoulder, not shoulder length) will become fashionable to the point where men have hair removed from their head and implanted on their shoulders.

Neck Piercings.

Once you start indulging in pedicures and facials, it’s only a short slide to lipstick and eyeshadow.
