Sounds almost like the 1,157 year reincarnation of former Commisioner of the US Patent Office

A typical combo meal at a hamburger joint will cost $8500.

In the U.S. we will still have dollar bills, quarters, dimes, and pennies exactly as they are today.

Large alien beings wearing dreadlocks will have taken over the earth. They will proceed to strip it of all resources.

Mankind will be an endangered species, reduced to a stone age existence. Strangely, they will all be in dreadlocks, too.

And humans will be able to fly perfectly-preserved Harriers with only minimal training and precisely zero flight time, and use those Harriers to completly annihilate the alien race.

Gold will still be kept in Fort Knox. And those scary dreadlock aliens will be too dumb to figure that out.

I don’t know about 3000, but [one year later](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0345423496/qid=1129313742/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-5511652-6926412?v=glance&s=books&n=507846), they will find a long-dead astronaut out in space, revive him, teach him via a braincap and begin to prepare to deal with the nasty gossip about us that the monolith spread. 😃

I agree. If we ever go to the stars we will do it with our brains downloaded into a more durable vessal than the human body. The Star Trek vision of space travel is as much a fantasy as travelling to the moon in a chariot pulled by swans.

Did you just call all 3.9M of us cockroaches?

Unless of course you’re one of us, in which case carry on.

This is the greatest cosmic joke that was ever played on us by the Big Bang when the universe was created, or by God if that’s your belief. Here we have numberless stars, undoubtedly attended by countless planets supporting life and intelligent civilizations, and yet the cosmic speed limit is the speed of light. Any interstellar travel undertaken by humans will likely be in generational ships, or ‘sleeper’ ships, and the whole enterprise will likely be more reminiscent of desparate boat people rather than the proud merchants and explorers of space operas, roving at will through the Galaxy.

There will be A LOT fewer humans. Why? Probably something to do with overpopulation and/or greed.

There will have been some sort of contact with extraterrestrial life. They will love hockey and the increase in audience that their viewership provides will thus make it the most popular game in the universe. They won’t be able to figure out ice skates though, which will be tragic.

The basic food staples won’t have changed at all.

According to Charles Stross in\*\* Accelerando\*\*, within the next decade our individual intelligences will all be uploaded (those who don’t choose a borg mind), and we will have multiple versions (threads) of ourselves going about our separate businesses. Of course, the entire mass of the solar system will have been converted to storage, and will have reached critical mass to become sentient, itself.
