They learned from Benghazi and the Clinton email investigation. As long as they are investigating, it doesn’t matter that there is nothing to investigate.
Barr has such a fucked up reverse Oedipal fetish for the unitary executive that I think he’ll see evidence of transgressions where no one else would. While nothing would win in court, Trump may get a PR win.
Of course.
I’d like to believe this. But if you follow the arc of Trump’s statements, it’s clear that he wants some show trials and I don’t know that Barr would be willing to prevent them. Even if they result in acquittals, the people in question are going to have to spend five or six figures on attorney bills, and this will have the secondary effect of chilling any future investigations into anything Administration related . . . better to just let it lie, right?
Since you asked for a prediction: After everyone has forgotten that Trump asked for this, including Trump himself, there will be a one paragraph summary a few months from now on some obscure website and/or in some newspaper somewhere, describing how the investigation has quietly been brought to and end, with no findings of law-breaking or unethical behavior on the part of the FBI. This paragraph will be read by no one.
Just as well, because most of it will be redacted anyway.
Maybe Dad gave her a list of guys to give blow jobs to?
They didn’t call him Dick Cheney solely because his given name was Richard.
This is how it should be, in a just and rational world. But given that we have a President with no regard for the truth; an AG who thinks he exists to serve the president, not the constitution; and a state-run media outlet: god only knows what mischief can come of this, regardless of the facts.
On their end of things, its a win-WIN! scenario. They can go for months darkly referring to “investigations”, releasing misleading tidbits of info until there is more poison in the well than water. That’s a “win”. And if the Dark Lord is willing, they might actually find something to bitch about and exaggerate. Maybe Mueller’s Republican Party registration ends with “Ha! Psych!”.
What I’m curious to know is whether the ones doing the actual investigating are going through the motions to please their boss, and just trying to look busy, or whether there are some seriously pro-Trump investigators who are taking on this project with zeal. If it’s the former, the results may be “meh”; if it’s the latter, they will turn the justice department into a domestic Wikileaks.
Dad still has his shotgun. ![]()
I wouldn’t mind zealous Pro-Trump investigators, so long as they’re actually serious about investigating. Because then they’d most likely find out that Trump’s claims are full of crap, and no one would be able to gainsay that by claiming that they’re “23 angry democrats” or some such thing.
After all, that’s pretty much what happened with Trump’s investigation into Voter Fraud. The people he put on the committee were mostly True Believers, and they ended up finding nothing, and shutting down with barely a whisper.
What really happened was that states told Kobach he was full of shit and to go stuff themselves. Even conservative states don’t like a federal task force demanding records on their own residents.
But within a bureaucracy there are bound to be some bad seeds that slipped into the cracks and crevices. Hopefully they’re not too far up the chain of command.
“Pro trump” literally means “not serious” in all cases publically observable.
