For me, it was anything hot. Scotch bonnets, and some sort of Thai chili sauce that made my husband cry. Anyone else crave wierd stuff when they were pregnant?

Mrs. Nipples craved Peanut Buster Parfaits from Dairy Queen.
For all three kids. She didn’t gain that much weight either.

It must have been for the calcium, but my wife ate crackers topped with sour cream and sardines. I tried one to show I was with her in spirit, and it wasn’t quite as bad as it sounds.

I had to draw the line when she wanted to try a can of beef Ken-L-Ration dog food. She remembered the smell from feeding her dog as a kid and thought it would be great.

The only real craving I got was for Long John Silver’s greasy batter-dipped unidentifiable white flaky food item they call fish. With lots of malt vinegar.

I craved pink grapefruit, artichoke hearts, pickled herring, strawberries, kiwifruit, pineapple and watermelon.

If I ever went to a shrink I think i’d terrify myself.

I remember my grandmother telling me that when she was pregnant with my father, aunts, and uncles she always craved plaster. I figure that her diet was deficient in some mineral and that was a quick fix.

Mmmmmm…plaster.

My mom ate heads of lettuce like apples while preggers with my sis. With me she craved Kit-Kat bars, bought them by the case. She stayed skinny as a rake though, hmmm.

For our youngest, Mrs. Dave-Guy ate relish sandwiches constantly.

For the oldest, she didn’t crave food, but she really really wanted to go bowling. She thinks it’s because she knew she couldn’t. She’s not an avid bowler or anything.

This is a real condition called Pica: eating non-food things, like plaster, laundry starch, dirt & ice. Pica is a symptom of anemia (lack of iron.) I know, because I had it with my 2nd. I ate an entire large bottle of tums a day. You may now call me Bizzarro Girl.

I’m fairly certain this (eating pottery) was covered in a column in one of Cecil’s books, but I’m not sure if said column was on line.

Thanks.

I remember showing this column to my 14 and 12 year old cousins (girls). They were extremely grossed out about some of the things that were consumed.

NO WAY am I ever going to direct them to this message board and have them learn about felching, squicking, and all that other stuff.

(I also don’t want them to know what a jerk their cousin is.) 😉

I’m surprised Saint Zero hasn’t said anything yet…

With our son I craved chicken. Always chicken. It took my dear hubby a year before he could eat chicken again. We left Chik-Fil-A one night after having had dinner, I looked across the street and said, “Hey, honey! There’s a KFC. Let’s go for a snack!” He has not forgiven me for that one yet. 😃

With our daughter it was steak. Not just steak, though: prime rib, baked potato, the whole nine yards. Either that or chocolate chip pancakes (ala IHOP) and garlic breadsticks (ala Fazoli’s). Yes, at the same time.

Being pregnant is a great excuse to put together strange combinations and get away with it.

Good lord, I thought I was the only one! I craved vinegar constantly…on fish, fries, salads (w/o the oil) everything! I would order the fish in a sandwich just so I could soak up more vinegar with the bun.

Yum.

Mrs. C. Had it going on for KFC Cole Slaw. Every day, she had to have a pint or so of it. I nearly went broke, and put the store manager’s grandchildren through college, I’m sure.
