Pregnancy tests at the 99 Cents Store . . .

If your baby had an extra finger, would you have it removed?
Assume it looks normal and works properly for a finger in that position.

No way. The kid will be a piano virtuoso.

Or, in any case, were in a situation where she didn’t want to be pregnant. Hope the test was negative if that was the case.

When I worked at the hospital, it was not uncommon to see “Pregnancy test” as a visit reason in the ER. Some people wondered about that, why someone would come in, possibly wait for hours and pay hundreds of dollars for something they could get for $1 down the street, and it turns out that some women do this because they believe that if they are at the hospital, they can get an abortion.

I was thinking the kid could get a bit part on Star Trek.

One of our pediatricians had one fewer finger on each hand. There wasn’t any distortion, so it took awhile for me to notice.

Why, that’s one percent per cent!

This is why I got pregnancy tests at the dollar store. It seems to be human nature to want to do another test to confirm the results, positive or negative. If the tests cost 99 cents, you can do that without wasting much money. The tests did work for me- I finally got the resultant toddler down for her nap.

She has the standard complement of fingers. If she had had an extra, I would definitely have had it removed if it was not functional. If it was functional, though, I’d have wanted to leave it there. I sometimes kind of wish I had some extra fingers.
