Premium Gas for a larger engine.. Really?

Exactly. If you drive 20,000 miles a year, and get 25 mpg, the required premium gas will cost you a whopping…$160 extra.

Since cars that take premium gasoline are not bargain econoboxes, I have never understood why people obsess over this. If you’re going to notice spending an extra $160 a year, perhaps you shouldn’t be thinking about springing for that Lexus in the first place.

Oddly, the Subaru Outback- hardly a luxury car- requires Premium, and that is the main reason I have crossed it off my shopping list.

Only the 2.5XT (turbo) and 3.0i (six cylinder) models; the base model, the 2.5i only specifies 87 octane fuel.
