A local video rental store is going out of business and was clearing _everything_ to the bare walls, so of course, i had to stop in and see if they had any interesting vids… I came home with; Saw II (never seen the Saw series, but i like horror films) Wes Craven’s “Shocker” Amazon Women on the Moon (great cult film) and… Spaced Invaders, an amusing, harmless bit of cinematic fluff about a group of bumbling, incompetent Martians who get lost from the main Atomic Battle Group, hear the H.G. Wells radio serial of War of the Worlds, and mistakenly land on Earth, thinking that’s where the real battle is… I haven’t seen the movie in a while, but i remember enjoying it when i rented it ages ago (one of the first VHS tapes i rented for our new at the time Panasonic top-load 2 head VCR) it’s actually aged pretty well, the Martian head animatronics were well done, good facial animation, Royal Dano’s character of Farmer Wrenchmuller is very well acted, you really feel bad for the old guy, potentially losing his farm and all… not a bad little film, decent amount of [quotables](http://imdb.com/title/tt0100666/quotes)… > [@Spaced Invaders](#): > > Pez: Prepare to die, Earth scum, prepare to die, earth scum. Was that the one with the Donut of Doom, that would destroy everything except the Martians who were encased in its hole (with it around them like a big inner-tube)? And which subsequently didn’t work, because in assembling it they didn’t insert tab A into slot B? I don’t remember much beyond that scene, but I do remember that (at the time, at least) I found the whole movie hilarious. ---

This is a great, fun little film. Not important, not really cool, but man is it fun. Didn’t one of the Martians constantly sound like he was doing a Jack Nickelson impersonation? The Donut of Doom – Great Band name too! ---

It happens in like 50% of every Bugs Bunny cartoon ever made, but Lordy, I am giggling as I type… ---

(No relation to the Department Of Defense) the “VernDroid” was also delightfully insane, the local, nerdy gas station attendant that Capt. Bipto transforms into a tough, macho, lantern-jawed, welding-goggles wearing “robot slave” by slapping a robot control thingy on the back of his neck… ---

I love that the little girl’s halloween costume is the Alien from ALIEN. I love that movie as well. What the line? “They’re not evil, they’re just…dumb.”
