People who do better financially by paying Walmart $3 every week or two than they would by opening a bank account. Some of them even have jobs and pay bills. And they aren’t all morons. Yep. This isn’t uncommon for the working poor or blue collar working class. My first job in high school was at a garage and we got weekly paychecks. A bunch of coworkers would just go down to the party store\* a couple blocks down and cash their checks there. After a few checks cleared fine and you were known, they’d cash your check and take only a couple bucks + the change. - I think this is a fairly regional term. It’s basically a liquor store; it sells smokes, beer/wine/liquor, lotto, snacks and sometimes magazines. ---
