All of whom are MAGAs and they wont vote for Biden anyway.

Here’s the crux of the disagreement, I think. We’ve already talked elsewhere about the uncertainty of how accurate the self proclaimed label is already, so I’m not sure about basing the discussion with “moderates and independents care enough about immigration to affect their vote” as a given, especially if the main sources of media that hammer the president on the issue are themselves solidly conservative.

Biden just needs to announce that there will be a border deal in 2025. Tell the world that Trump is history and that this is the best deal the GOP will ever get. Do some arm twisting and get GOP minus the far out dingbat wing on board.

The problem is, the people who need to hear what Biden is actually doing will never hear about it. They only listen to Fox News and worse, and those outlets simply will not tell the truth about Biden, or his actions.

So until we figure out either how to get these people to listen to other outlets, or get these outlets to tell the truth, nothing will matter. When so many people actively live in a bubble of lies, we’re screwed. I could think of several ways to do either of those things, but none of them would actually be good for society in the long run.

A Biden Super-PAC is going to focus on Trump’s legal troubles. That seems like a tricky call-it could work, but as they mention it could seem like they’re reminding people about the false “Biden government against Trump” story. Should they hammer him on it?

Better to hammer on the theme that Trump is not running for president; but running for a “get out of jail free” card. Making the case that Trump cares more about himself than the country is an easy one to make reenforced by Trump’s own daily actions and statements.

Trump will be reminding them of that anyways, so that part is probably a wash. But in the end, we need to get the truth out there, otherwise all they’ll ever have a chance to hear is Trump’s bullshit. If the truth can’t set us free, nothing else will, so might as well give it a try.

Their target audience isn’t people who believe the Biden administration is out to “get Trump.” Those votes are locked in.

Their target is reluctant Trump voters who have convinced themselves that he’s not _that_ bad. Those voters need Trump’s weaknesses, schemes, and crimes hammered home daily.

Those are voters who can be convinced to change their vote, perhaps to a third party or write-in, or perhaps made unenthused enough to stay home (which also benefits Democrats downticket).

And, of course, unenthused Democrats need to see this shit so that they’re convinced **not** to stay home. They need to be reminded of the stakes.

Coca Cola doesn’t run ads because it thinks people will suddenly stop preferring Pepsi. They do it to remind existing customers that Coke is their favorite product.

Part of the reason that its so low is that Biden is getting hit by both sides. As well as those who think that his border security is too weak there are also those who who think he’s too harsh.

Its been tried to some extent, see the problem is the liberal message of let’s all get along doesn’t provoke the fight or flight, short circuit, cortex bypass that Republican message of fear and hatred of the other does. Also Liberals are less faith based in their beliefs and so more likely to figure out that they are being lied to and get annoyed.

I agree with the general idea of attack Trump, but not with this specific focus. IMHO the focus needs to be on what Trump would do if he wins. It’s time Biden and the Democrats stop using the Marquess of Queensberry rules in a streetlight.

Or this. What’s troubling is that Dark Brandon didn’t get loose, not that he almost did. Unleash the truth. Tell people that Trump wants to turn the US into a fascist country. Paint him as the evil authoritarian asshole that he is. Focus on that rather than on the minutia of whether or not Trump lied to some big bank back in the day about the exact value of his assets when he was applying for a loan.

My problem with Biden at the moment is that he seems to be coming off as weak. He wont debate Trump. Seeded ground with Abbot with Texas National Guard. He has the legal authority to do something about it. Even without the ruling, he could Federalize the National Guard, could he not? Nope, back to negotiating with these unreasonable people. He isn’t upfront about what he feels about Netanyahu. Won’t do a Super Bowl interview.

Exactly. Biden is letting Trump set the narrative for this election even though he’s the incumbent. That’s not a recipe for a certain loss, but it is giving up a big advantage. I’ve brought up FDR and his fireside chats in another post, and I think this is something Biden needs to bring back. He needs to talk to the American people directly.

It’s not about the format. It’s the direct, straightforward communication to the American people that’s missing. The lack of Democratic leaning voters on AM talk radio isn’t the problem. It’s the lack of Joe Biden on TickTock, Facebook, X and such that’s the problem. Had those things been around in the 1930s and early 1940s I’m sure FDR would have used them.

Had I billions to throw away on founding a PAC and spending on election stuff, I’d go with working on dividing the GOP into Trump and not-Trump, insinuating that the Party doesn’t really support Trump but is using him to get votes and that they are secretly happy for him to go to prison. Maybe start a #writehimin social media campaign to suggest that the way for MAGA to support him is to write Trump in for EVERY office from dogcatcher on up rather than voting for the actual Republican candidates.

It’s exactly the sort of thing the right have been doing, it’s probably true that they’d like him to go away while keeping their hands clean, and the thought that one could split off enough diehard MAGAs to cause assorted GOP losses at all levels amuses me.

Alas, I persist in not being independently wealthy.
