Pretentious or just plain stupid reasons to dislike musical things, and general music turn-offs

I share the “x feat. y” annoyance mentioned earlier upthread.

I’m also irked by the leet/text speak abbreviations, they make me cringe. “Nothing Compares 2 U”, “Sk8er Boi”, and crap like that. It seems childish and uneducated to me, like when in school elections in the 3rd grade we thought “Vote 4 Dave” was clever wordplay.

Besides, Slade did it first, get off my lawn.

I do have a couple songs by the Decemberists, and I would purchase whole albums by them because they’re sort of good. But I just hate their name, with the superfluous-seeming “e” in it.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on the affected country drawl. The actual music and even sometimes the lyrics of country can sometimes be good (even if it is subject to more than the usual Sturgeon’s Law percentage where 99% of it is crap rather than the expected 90% for a genre), but I just can’t stand another Nashville or Nashville-coached accent.

A few years ago I noticed that most of the very few country singers I like have a Texas accent rather than Nashville. It’s also probably the reason I like bluegrass a lot more than country. ETA: The non-nashville thing, not the Texas thing

Do you want the “Hey Hey Mama”, that’s named “Black Dog”, or the one named “Black Country Woman”?
