All chaps are by definition assless! If they weren’t, they’d be pants!
I bet he’s hung like a…phallic guitar. I’m sure his religion doesn’t exclude sexual suggestion. He’s not coveting a neighbor or anything.
Well, he brought joy to my little corner of the cosmos, so that has to be worth something, no matter the religon!
WOW! He was awesome. Hippy I think it was intentional. As someone said above it stopped our party cold execpt we got quiet ubtil someon said “Holyshit eat that FCC.”
I think/hope that he’s hung like a horse & IMHO it does seem to be those little guys who pack.
If you hang around the SDMB long enough, you learn that in fact the chaps worn for welding are not assless.
<ominous> Do not make that mistake again. </ominous>
And yes, Prince was awesome. A consummate professional!
I too liked the halftime show.
uh… beats that no talent hack Asssleee Simpson.
Now’s a good time to break out the 'Frickin FCC song by Peter Griffin. In terms being offensive, Prince would have to be considered way more offensive than JanetJacksongate. Although personally I didn’t find either offensive… just funny.
one thing’s for sure, Prince plays like his balls are on fire…
Does anyone know if this was a first for him? Performing Purple Rain before a live audience in the actual rain? With all the purple lighting that was a pretty cool sight to see.
As far as I can tell, the FCC didn’t notice or care to respond. Too funny.
:dubious: I thought Ashlee played a college game, or something. Certainly not a Superbowl.
And true, Ashlee is no Prince, but only a person who had never listened to her debut album would call her untalented.
e-bow- just curious (I am no Ashlee hater- in fact, I know nothing about her, except the SNL thing)- how can you tell a non-musician singer has talent by listening to an album? If the only thing on it hers is the voice, and voice can possibly be altered (ala Johnny Bravo)- how can you be sure there is talent there, in a non-live setting?
I assure you I’m not trying be rude or facetious in saying this: you use your ears.
There are two important features of popular music (that is, Popular as distinct from Classical, so I’m including everything from the most transient pop starlet to the most cantankerous underground artist in my definition) that most people entirely miss: first, there is a lot more to making good music than instrument-playing and song-writing, and, second, popular music has never, ever been created independently by only one person.
So, my answer may be a little unsatisfying, but you can tell Ashlee Simpson has talent because she made an enjoyable record. There were other people involved in the process of making that record, but there are multiple people involved in the process of making every record. Simpson may have used the recording studio to improve her sound, but so too does every artist. Regardless of who else was involved in the project, and what studio techniques they used, it is quite clear that Simpson’s role is one that could not be played by just anyone. There are as many instances of unsuccessful stars who did not play their own instruments as there are instances of unsuccessful stars who did. Simpson’s role on that album was, roughly, being a pop star, and from the auditory evidence she exhibited admirable talent.
You guys must have missed Prince’s song/video Black Sweat.
I was a child during the main span of Prince’s popularity. All I remembered of him was some mediocre synth pop (as if synth pop can be good). I had no idea he actually had musical talent, until I saw this youtube video a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILDGkKqFLoI. Prince has an extended solo in the second half.
So, anyway, does he have albums with interesting guitar work, or is it all just garbage like the Purple Rain stuff?

**SB **- careful, sir; you are welcome to have an opinion, but in case you haven’t noticed, most folks on this and the other Prince thread in CS really, really respect the guy.
Many, if not most of his CD’s have amazing guitar on them. You would probably want to start with Sign O’ the Times - IMHO his best album and laced with amazing guitar work throughout.
But I would really challenge you to re-think your position. Try listening to 1999 or Dirty Mind - both are truly brilliant - and yes, they are synth-pop - but fused with R&B, funk, rock - not just dry New Wave stuff. Listen to When You Were Mind or Do it All Night off of Dirty Mind and tell me that you don’t hear the straight up rock (WYWM was covered by both Cyndi Lauper and Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels) and organic funk in there…

. . . until I saw this youtube video a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILDGkKqFLoI. Prince has an extended solo in the second half.
Thanks for posting that, SenorBeef. I had done a couple of searches on youtube awhile ago looking for Prince guitar clips, with no luck. That was killer stuff.

That and Prince is also a Vampire he just might kick your a$$ with his phallic instrument. Doo rag guitar playing vampire midgets. Next on Springer

That’s exactly what I was thinking. He may not be quite as nasty as he once was, but I think he’s quietly given up on being a total prude. Which is fantastic; it really didn’t work for him.
CNN has an article on the Schlong Guitar of Death http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/07/prince.superbowl.ap/index.html
I’m sure Prince is thinking the Superbowl Halftime Show is the best thing that’s happened to his career in the last decade. The reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

I saw him during his total prude stage. And he was still very slutty - just didn’t hump the stage or actually sing the word fuck.
