“The Spectator” in London had a story yesterday saying that Queen Eliz. has finally decided she must eventually, grudgingly, give her OK to Charles and Camilla getting married—though they HAVE to wait till the Queen Mum dies (no, this was not explicitly stated!) and it can’t be next year, which will be Eliz.'s Diamond Jubilee. Now. Let me get this out of the way first: I DON’T REALLY CARE ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. This is in no way an important news story, or indeed “news” at all. I put it in MPSIMS because it’s about as mindless and stupid a subject as it can get—but was just curious as to what Dopers thought about this long and tangled love tale . . . ---

So, if they were to have a child, a boy, and then the Queen and Charly kick off, who becomes King? His first son, I’m guessing, but still, curious whether being the son of the current\* royal family would hold any weight. ---

\ & I know it’s a nitpick…next year is the golden jubilee, not the diamond (diamond would be 60). The not next year deal is probably because all the deccent weddingish dates are booked up with jubilee stuff that they are already committed to do & the attention, I guess, should be on the current monarch during a jubilee, not on whether her son is counting the days 😉 (not to mention how long it takes those guys to arrange anything). And - I don’t care either way, but can’t resist nitpicking, sorry ;)! ---

No, it’s her GOLDEN Jubilee. A DIAMOND one is sixty years. If they marry, it would have to be morganatic, which would mean any children they would have-unlikely, considering their ages-no title. ---

Let the man have his happiness. I don’t think the Great British Public really cares too much any more (although I could be wrong). There was some talk of them having the wedding at Chelsea Town Hall, although this could be malarkey. (He’d hardly be the first king to take a second wife, anyway) ---

Well, I don’t think the marriage of Charlie and Di was any great storybook. I do not respect him because IIRC, he cheated on Di with Camilla whilst married to Di. Bad Charles, bad. And she was too, for that matter, right?! However, who can keep true love apart? I do think it’s neat that after so long, they’ll be able to be together in the open. /Princess Bride/ Mawwige! I heard on the news this morning that it’s ok for Charles to remarry because his ex-wife is dead but Camilla’s ex-husband is still alive and the church won’t recognize the marriage or something. There’s also talk of the church changing that _just so_ Charles and Camilla can get married. I say, who gives a rat’s ass! They’ve been hot for each other for years. Let them get married and be happy. And I have to agree that Prince Ping-Pong-Paddle-Ears was really funny! My monitor is now wearing a mouthful of water! ---

He should have married her to begin with instead of settling for someone he didn’t love. I don’t think I can remember a time during their whole marriage where I saw him make any kind of loving gesture toward Di. ---

" That has GOT to mean something different in British slang, as in American slang it would not only be physically impossible, but would send WILLIE reaching for the medicine cabinet . . . ‘Up the duff’ = pregnant. Eve – one of the tabloids was yesterday reporting that Willy partook in an intimate three-some while in Patagonia on his year off from University. Someone else asked about the genders: _Allegedly_, his was the only pole in the tent not attached to the roof. I think he should go ahead and marry her. He obviously loves the woman and he’s just a human being for heaven’s sake. For all the flack she gets, I think Camilla’s okay. Ah. The “duff” is the backside in Yank slang, so you can see my confusion. I can imagine Willie getting it up the duff, but two at once? The logistics would be baffling. ---

Well yes, it’s not something I’m familiar with, either. However, the thought of having the tent pitched between oneself and the camp fire would resolve the rather interesting conundrum of how, in such a confined space, he _allegedly_ got to grips with the situation. I also wonder, if he were to hit the bulls eye twice in one evening, how that might be resolved Constitutionally.
