Well to be fair, I mostly watch SNL off DVR now and nearly every musically act I Fast forward through. Prince kept me watching longer than most.
US only, BTW.
I’d love to see more like him on SNL instead of the pre-packaged artificial crap they trot out on a regular bases. . .just not HIM, per se.
It’s not that I don’t think he’s talented, it’s that I don’t much like he does with his talent. I just never really ‘got’ him, I guess. People gush and point to particular performances, and at best, I’ll say, “Not bad.” Even that “While my Guitar Gently Weeps” solo on Youtube- I thought it was fun and entertaining, but I didn’t think it was amazing. It doesn’t help that I think he’s an incredibly egotistical ass who didn’t display the social graces of a 5-year-old when he broke Capt. Kirk’s guitar. I wonder if he threw the guitar because Kirk wouldn’t sell it to him.
I kinda feel like my first post was thread-crappish. Sorry for that. At least I used my words and tried to explain a little better this time.
I’ve never gotten the chance to see Prince perform and only got into his music like five years ago. Even though I like his old stuff, I haven’t been that impressed as others have since he did that song with Beyonce. After seeing that video though (thanks Little Nemo), I have to say that was a bad ass performance! I will definitely be getting his new albums. Right now I only have Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, 1999, and 3121.
The girls were great too. I read their Wiki entry which is pretty sparse. My wife noticed male performers on each side that were only barely on camera once or twice. Are they part of the band?
For me, the best part of the show was the Taylor Swift sketch and the drug Swiftamine.. That’s classic SNL stuff there.
