Yawn, so William is now 18. Someone was swooning and saying he is the world’s most elibible bachlor. My question is eligible for what? Lottery winnings, a scholarship? ---

I though “eligible” in “eligible bachelor” was a code word meaning “rich guy.” ---

I heard on the radio that William has to marry a virgin. However, he himself doesn’t have to be one. T ---

Yeah. I remember it was a big deal that Lady Diana, before she was allowed to marry Prince Charles, had to be inspected by a doctor to ensure that her hymen was intact. ---

Yeah , wealth and unearned privelidge are always a turn-on aren’t they ladies? And to think there is a thread saying women are better than men. Just goes to show how superficial we all can be. ---

BTW, a ruptured hymen is not conclusive evidence that a woman has had sexual intercourse; there are other things that can rupture the hymen. I have heard this a number of times from Americans, and it’s not true. I think it may have arisen from the fact that to commit adultery with the wife of the heir to the throne is technically treason (though no prosecution would ever be brought these days). There is now at least some prospect of the heir to the throne marrying a divorced mother of two. I don’t think it will happen, but nobody is saying, “Well, she’s not a virgin, so that’s that.” ---

Read **Lindsay** and **Tracey** Looks to me as if they think that is the main attraction to some people, even if they themselves do not hold with that view. What else makes this rather ordinary looking boy seem so special? ---

What irks me about issues such as this is the double standards. People are quite happy to bandy about phrases such as elegible bachelor and the like with regard to an eighteen year old who is no more than a kid. Would you be happy about this if it were _your_ child who was treated as some king of pseudo sex symbol? I think not. the sooner people stop taking any notice _whatsoever_, of this kind of media crap, including talking of it cynically, the better for all of us, the royal family included. ---
