Prince, you are the KING of the goat-felchers!

I for one do believe that Prince sits around his computer all day gleefully and maniacally shutting down anyone who dares to post his intellectual property. I can just picture his little evil laugh in my head right now.

Exactly. You pay the money to the Harry Fox Agency, you record and release the song. The amount depends on the number of copies sold, with a special deal for releases of fewer than 1000 copies.

That’s what a friend of mine did when he produced a tribute album of Kate Bush songs. If everyone had to ask Kate if they could cover her songs, they’d be waiting three years to be told “no”.

You mean the videographer whose art is so precious that they think the normal rules around the venue they voluntarily choose to host their craft on, shouldn’t apply to them? Yes, pretty annoying, but “egotastic shithead” is being a bit hard on yourself, gaffa.

Prince, though, he’s OK. He’s been royally fucked over about ownership of his own work before, so I’m cool with him asserting all the control over his own music as he can muster (which, face it, in today’s world isn’t that much)

Gaffa I hear ya, I even sympathize. I also do not support Prince’s course of action but he and his people have every right under the current law to do exactly what they did. That is the simple but sad truth.

This whole thing makes me miss Sonny Bono, he would have fixed this bit of Copyright Law long ago.

Capt

How about we share? There’s enough Prince for everyone.

The DMCA is an abomination. But that is a different pitting. As I said, he has options, and he chose an option that none of over 100 artists on my channel chose. That makes him a piece of shit.

I disagree. Bono thought copyright should be forever.

Songwriters do not create melodies, they discover them. If Bono had had his way, the heirs of songwriters of the last hundred years would run roughshod over every songwriter of the future. I’m sure that anyone who comes up with a great melody, if they looked around, would discover that Mozart came up with that same melody before he was toilet trained.

I don’t get this. Don’t you have back-up copies of your own videos?

Bite me. This is about the kids and their performances. I’m just there to capture it for posterity, the parents and lastly to make a little money. Some of these kids are so talented that they will have careers in music and these videos will have value in the future.

Again, he’s just one of three groups involved. Why should his rights trump everyone elses?

So the dumbshit signed a bad contract? Boo-fucking-hoo, that’s SOP for the record industry which is founded on the “fucking young people over with bad contracts” business. Just you’ve been abused doesn’t excuse becoming an abuser.

Of course I do. What I don’t have is the comments from the viewers. Do you have any idea how hard it is to produce a collection of non-moronic comments on a set of YouTube videos?

Small time videographer/copyright leeches are, in general, lazy. If they wanted to work hard, they’d create original content. Asshole.

Hey, gaffa, would it be cool with you if I DVD-ripped your concert vids and sold them for cheap in the Target parking lot? If not, why not?

Okay, then copy-paste them to a text file or something. Hardly a major operation.

Did you mean to say:

***God bless you and him. Always!!!

I bet.

Uh huh. Now we’re getting to it.

Because they’re his songs.

He isn’t an abuser. Back up your shit and quit being a dumbass. You Tube doesn’t owe you a venue and Prince doesn’t owe you his art. Get over yourself.

I swear, there’s nothing like a talentless hack to act like an entitled piece of shit. You try creating something amazing and having people turn it into trash, and we’ll see how you feel. But that’s just beyond you, isn’t it?

Prince made something wonderful. The kids you are talking about sound talented and are making something amazing as well. You are glomming off everyone else work, mad you don’t get to make more money from it.

Again, let’s make one thing perfectly clear.

It is not just about Prince asserting his rights.

It is the fact that he asserted his rights in a way that leaves me one strike away from losing 299 other videos with songs by other artists. Most of those artists chose the non-dick option and are benefiting from the free ads for their song right next to my video of the kids performing that song. If “Controversy Music” had succeeded in finding the other two videos, all of those other artists would have lost this opportunity to sell their music.

Good one! I actually laughed out loud.

I was not given that option. When I received the DMCA copyright strike notices, the original videos disappeared. No way to get the info.

Wahhhhh! I can’t make money off someone else’s work!! Wahhhhh! I don’t follow the rules, and I blame other people when I get caught! Boo hoo, I’m stupid!

Can’t you find a non-You Tube option?

How many of those artists asked you for that “opportunity”? How many of them get a cut of your sales?

Personally, I hope you get that third strike soon. Can’t wait to see you come crying about it here. I’ll laugh my ass off about it.
