Pro photographers using huge long lenses for well-lit indoor shoots

If you have a fast (large aperture) lens with you, you have a choice - stop it down for a deep depth of field, or use it wide open for a shallow depth of focus.

If you have a slow lens with you, you have no choice.

That’s why you always want to have a fast lens with you. Unless the weight, size and/or cost of a fast lens is an issue.
