Probability of my car's VIN being accidentally duplicated

Hi. I have an update. I took inspiration from @Ike_Witt and last night checked my VIN. Lo and behold, it was not the same as the VIN I had been using in the MyPeugeot app and for subscribing to connected services. This is ironic because the incorrect VIN that I had used when I tried to renew my TomTom traffic services was the same that was in the email I received from Peugeot in October telling me that the 3-year subscription that came with the car was expiring. So all I can guess is that the dealer had entered the wrong VIN for the traffic services back in 2022 when I bought the car. How TomTom traffic managed to work in my car for 3 years with the wrong VIN is beyond me…

So I deleted the incorrect VIN and entered the correct one. Immediately I saw some functionality in the MyPeugeot app that had never been there before (e.g. charging status, preconditioning). And then I resubscribed to the traffic services. It seems that the resubscription was successful, but apparently it will take up to 6 days and frequent driving for it to start showing traffic. Not sure what sort of magic is supposed to happen during that time, but let’s see…

Anyway, it seems that the mystery of the VIN is solved. It was my mistake, or more precisely, the mistake of the Peugeot dealer. And in case anyone is curious, the error was one incorrect digit in position 15 of the VIN. We had 688 instead of 668

Wow. I’m glad that you were able to find the cause of your issue and fix it.

I do find it strange that things like this can happen without being noticed earlier.
