Hi. I have an update. I took inspiration from @Ike_Witt and last night checked my VIN. Lo and behold, it was not the same as the VIN I had been using in the MyPeugeot app and for subscribing to connected services. This is ironic because the incorrect VIN that I had used when I tried to renew my TomTom traffic services was the same that was in the email I received from Peugeot in October telling me that the 3-year subscription that came with the car was expiring. So all I can guess is that the dealer had entered the wrong VIN for the traffic services back in 2022 when I bought the car. How TomTom traffic managed to work in my car for 3 years with the wrong VIN is beyond me…
So I deleted the incorrect VIN and entered the correct one. Immediately I saw some functionality in the MyPeugeot app that had never been there before (e.g. charging status, preconditioning). And then I resubscribed to the traffic services. It seems that the resubscription was successful, but apparently it will take up to 6 days and frequent driving for it to start showing traffic. Not sure what sort of magic is supposed to happen during that time, but let’s see…
Anyway, it seems that the mystery of the VIN is solved. It was my mistake, or more precisely, the mistake of the Peugeot dealer. And in case anyone is curious, the error was one incorrect digit in position 15 of the VIN. We had 688 instead of 668
Stuff like that might be reason for a lot of “electric gremlins” in modern cars that never get sorted.
Function/accessory abc does not work … the garage does everything possible (SW-updates, changing parts…) … to no avail … and the problem is not really a hardware (=parts) problem, but more like an orgware problem (that might never get resolved, b/c everybody is looking at the problem with a loupe instead of with a binocular) …
Would be interesting to see how many of the “Brand XYZ is a hot pile of $hit, I started getting electronic problems w/ my car right after the warrantee expired and the $hitty dealer could never sort it out - ended up selling the car cheaply, I will never-ever buy another XYZ again” phrases are owed to something like that.
yeah. But I really wonder why the Peugeot IT people didn’t find it odd that a random person showed up with “my VIN” at the exact same time that they were looking at an inexplicable problem with the traffic updates.
I am happy to report that as of today the traffic is now working on my car navigation system. It was probably working a couple of days ago, but it didn’t occur to me to see whether the Traffic box was ticked in the navigation system
