I watch a lot of wedding photographers work, and I notice that when they have both types available, they use a Nikon or Canon SLR for the “action” shots that require them to run around the chapel or reception hall. For the “still” shots where everyone is posing together to have a portrait taken, they break out the big Mamiya on a tripod.

Right now I’m half tempted to try getting work as a photographer’s assistant just so I can work with the gear. I think I’m an ok amateur but I’d like to learn more working with a pro. If I made enough money I might even be able to put it into some high end gear of my own. Anyone here ever try this?
